  • A simple way to end the Iranian nuclear tension

"Ahmadinejad: Iran doesn't need the bomb"

UNITED NATIONS - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad insisted Thursday that Tehran's nuclear program is peaceful and said he is "at a loss" about what more he can do to provide guarantees. "The bottom line is we do not need a bomb," he said at a news conference on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly. "The time for nuclear bombs has ended," he added.

Ahmadinejad said his country has not hidden anything and was working within the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The answer is simple. Allow the IAEC inspectors to monitor everything. That's what you can do. Instead of kicking them out and not allowing the experts to monitor the safety and content, allow them to do their job and the tension would ease. Iran is intentionally putting a cloak of secrecy over their projects and claiming that nothing is going on. Unreal. Regardless of whatever is going on, the IAEC is there for a reason, to ensure the safety of EVERYONE, including the Iranians.

The problem is that many Americans and foreigners are buying Mahmoud's lies, and honestly believe the Bush administration is trying to pick a fight. They are so desperate to hate Bush that they are easily deceived by statements of false peace like those from Mahmoud.

That's really ignorant and sad, IMO.

    Facts:
    1) Iran has no functional nuclear reactors.
    2) The Russians are currently working on building one (1) for them.
    3) The Russians offered to supply Iran with energy grade nuclear fuel.
    4) Iran turned down Russia's offer, saying they prefer to enrich it themselves.
    5) IAEC inspectors were placed to oversee enrichment operations.
    6) Iran kicked out the IAEC inspectors
    7) The UN passed a resolution the enrichment be temporarily halted until inspections can resume.
    8) Iran refuses to halt enrichment or allow inspections.

This is where we sit. How can Mahmoud possibly claim that he is "at a loss" about what more he can do to provide guarantees.
The only reason I can see for him to insist on un-monitored enrichment against UN and IAEC policy is to enrich the material to be weapons grade. I just cannot imagine any other reason.

      .
      Also:

We also offered them nuclear fuel as well as help building their reactor, they declined.

The only other logical reason is called the "staged bluff". By creating the entire situation and causing everyone else's alarms to go off, then they can take the "Why are you picking on us?" scenerio. It reminds me of the schoolyard brat who annoys everyone else by picking fights and then ing to the teachers that the others are starting the fights and picking on him. Childish and immature to say the least. He's looking to gather all the attention and be the spoiler of the rest of the normal world's consesus.

The old school solution was called a good 'ol fashioned attitude adjustment.
