  • May Do The Unthinkable

I've been killing myself over this for weeks, not getting any sleep.

Some big bills have recently hit us. A big vet bill, our furnace went south, and had a major water leak in the basement due to some old pipes. I know these things happen, but when they all happen in the same month, it gets to be too much.

There's a very good chance I'll be parting ways with the Trans Am.

I just can't see hanging onto something that barely gets driven due to time constraints and weather. If money wasn't an issue, I wouldn't even consider it. It kills me even thinking about it. I've worked long and hard to afford this car. Now I more than likely have to sell it.

Since I put it back on the road in March, I've driven it a total of 450 miles. That's it. I don't usually have time to drive it. When I do, it's either raining (doesn't get driven in the rain), or I'm going somewhere I would rather not park it.

2002 WS6... T-tops... M6... Black. Used to be my dream car... Now it's going to be someone elses.

That always sucks when life dumps on you like that.....especially when it forces you to sell your baby! But that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Hate to see you part with the TA.

Hey, you gotta do what is right for the family. A car is just a car. You can get another one later.

              Thanks, guys.

I'm not happy about having to do it, but the family means more.

I'll still end up with a fairly nice car. I'm looking at a 2003 Audi A4 Quattro right now. Good all around car for this part of the country. Still a fun car to drive, it's AWD, and has a real nice interior. Audi has always made the nicest interiors in my opinion.

I'll let you know the end result, but I honestly can't see keeping it right now.

Maybe this will be a springboard to getting another muscle car in the future. A Cobra kit perhaps.

I understand where you're coming from...... The last couple years have been rough on my family and me. I don't have the money to pull the car out of the garage and take it to the track. Other than a couple car shows and some infrequent sunny day drives around the block, it hasn't come out of the garage in almost 3 years. I have thousands of dollars tied up in the car, the Silverado tow vehicle and the car trailer.

Every once in a while the thought crosses my mind of just bailing out and putting the money in the bank toward my (already delayed) retirement. But I doubt I could get much for the car, compared to its true cost and my feelings of what its worth. Unfortunately, I suspect parting it out might bring more $$$$ than selling it complete. That will be a sad day.

I hope you work things out in the best way possible for your situation. You appear wise beyond your years!

                  Thanks alot, Fred.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for everyone here. Your opinions mean more to me than most people I know in person. We all have a basic love of cars here. I guess that's why we're all here to begin with. While I would love to be in the position financially to keep the T/A, it just doesn't seem doable at this point in time. Even if it is, why be strapped?

So, I look at it this way.... While driving the Audi is a definite downgrade to the T/A, it's a huge upgrade to my Bravada... And I drive that way more. My overall driving experience should get a decent upgrade then.

I'm probably justifying, but whatever makes me feel better I suppose.

                  Thanks again, everyone.

I'm just messin' with ya man. I remember what my dad told me when I got the GN..."Remember, it is just a car, and cars can be replaced easier than a house and your family. I don't want you to sell it, but its better than losing your house." Remember, there's still many fish in the sea .

I've actually thought about that. I wouldn't mind a third gen car at all. Still, I may wait it out for a Cobra kit... Even the new Camaro is a strong possibility (2nd year of production).

I've wanted a Cobra kit ever since I saw one when I was 10 at a car show in Bridgewater. It was love. Deep blue metallic with white stripes. Factory Five Racing makes a real nice kit. Two years is my goal. Sooner if something I can't pass up comes by.

                          Well.... It's been sold.

A guy I used to work with bought it for $500 less than my bottom line. I let it go to him for a bit less because it was such a quick sale. He will have the loan check in two weeks to come pick up the car.

I'm trying to stay positive about it all. I'll end up with a better daily driver, but I'll have no T/A for nice days. Oh well...

I've got my eye on a two year goal. By October of 2008, I will have another weekend car (if finances allow). I've opened an account for just that purpose. New Camaro, used Vette convertible, Cobra kit car, V* Solstice/Sky... At least I'll have options now.

                          Justifying any way I can.

I know you are bummed, but it sounds like you are already developing a solid plan to get another "toy" down the road. You'll get another weekend warrior I'm sure.

Are you still looking at the Audi's? Those are great cars.

Yes. That has actually kept me preoccupied. I'm pumping myself up on the Audi so I don't have to think about the departing T/A.

The more I look into the Audis, the more I really like them. The interiors are just so well put together, and enough can't be said about the Quattro system.

I'll be okay with this sale. Sometimes you have to do what's hard to get what you truly want.

Thanks for all the encouragement, everyone.
