  • yo Ken...

...getting ready to do the first 3 coats of Z5 w/ ZFX. the car has been thoroughly dawned and squeaky, ready for some Zaino.

I know once I mix the Z5 and ZFX I've got a max. twelve hours before I need to rinse out the mixing bottle.

The directions say 4-5 drops of ZFX per oz. polish...do you recommend mixing one or two ounces at a time? My inclination is to mix one ounce at a time and then mix additional ounces as needed. Do you think one ounce will be enough to polish the Z three times?

Also, it says to let it haze over for 20-30 minutes? Is there any harm in letting it haze for longer? I doubt I can do an entire coat in less than 45 min. minimum. I would like to do the entire car, then buff and Z6.

    Thanks.

One ounce will probably give you 1 coat if you go really thin. You can wait overnight if you want. All that matters is that the polish is dry when you take it off.
    No F-Body right now

heehee! I did mix only one ounce, and after one coat, there's only a bit left. I'll discard that and mix a slightly "smaller" ounce for next coat.

yes, once I am done with the whole process, you can bet there will be pics...lots of 'em too.

I only got two coats on today, so instead of three coats per day for two days, I'll do two coats per day for three days.

I followed the directions to the letter, thanks Ken for your guidance, I would have probably only done one coat of Z5. the concourse buffing towels worked great.

the second coat went on and came off easier than the first for sure. I notice a marked improvement in optical clarity.

after I get six coats on the exterior, I plan on doing the door jambs, hatch, under the hood. my polished alum. wheels are clearcoated, should I Z5 them as well?

Yup. Brake dust has a harder time sticking to the wheel.
