  • Akita Husky pup needs home

got an email from a wolfdog friend of mine, she lives in the western part of Va, near the NC border. She has several wolfdogs, some high percentage, and has written some pretty good information about them, very knowledgeable individual. She also works at a local animal shelter.... anyway... a lady showed up at her door and here is some of my friends email:

"This woman shows up at my door this morning, too early I might add <g>..."she
heard I have wd's" and she has a dog she took to keep it from the pound, but it
is running her crazy. It's "wild-acting, doesn't listen, gets into everything"
blahblah and it "looks just like those" (points to Solo and Denali, who are
mostly husky and *based on looks alone*, I would be doubting they were even wd's
    <g>) So I figure, it's a husky...but I get her name & address, & promise to
come down for an eval after I have showered, etc. (She is only 20 mins away.)

Turns out to be a *stunning* little akita/husky cross. No wolf. Smallish, maybe
45-50#. Female, in great shape, one blazing blue eye & one brown one. Coloured
like an akita. This woman had her spayed, UTD on shots, etc. The dog was a total
doll baby, likes people but not obnoxious. Gentle & loving with the woman's
daughter, played fetch really nice with her too. She's not trained, but she
seemed to learn Sit and Down quickly, for bits of cheese. Took the cheese
    really gently, too.
The woman practically begged me to take the dog...her concerns: the dog is
starting to get protective of her daughter (a typical akita trait) and growls at
visiting children when they play sometimes. (I guess the dog thinks they're
hurting "his" little girl.) Also, the dog blows her off, chews everything in
sight, digs holes in the yard (ummm...it's part husky! <g>) and gets spazzy
about getting attention (although I didn't see any excessive hyper-ness. She did
say the dog was getting better, on better food & with more exercise). The woman
has a HUGE yard with a 4' fence which the dog respects. She also has a female
greyhound, with whom the dog plays very nicely. Personally I wish she would just
learn to cope with some destruction, and put the dog up when the daughter's
friends come to play--she has been a fantastic home for this dog for the last 2
months--but...I guess we forget that Joe Public usually expects their dogs to
turn Off when not in use. :-/

This is an awesome little dog for *somebody*, if somebody is
interested...loveable and an absolute knockout to look at. I took her phone #
(but not the dog, I just don't dare). She is talking about the pound...our
"shelter" is...well, let's just say even this beautiful, friendly young dog
probably hasn't got a shot in hell. "

if anyone is interested, give me a PM.... we used to have an Akita Husky..they are awesome . she lived to be 17 years old. God bless Gingers soul.

Dayum! I didn't realize wolfdogs are smart enough to use email.

All kidding aside, that is an awesome animal. I just gave a friend of mine a call and left him a message. He used to have a Husky a few years ago. I know he was casually searching again for the past year.

        she a cutie for sure!

that is a shame she has to go to another new home, with a little effort that woman would be fine with her.

What a beautiful gal! It really is too bad though; with a little patience and training, that dog can turn out to be the best dog she ever owned. Too many pet owners these days don't have time for their animals, and most end up in shelters. I can go on and on......
1996 White T/A, LT-1 auto with only aftermarket Flowmasters, shift kit, and a LG Motorsports G2 cold air kit.....that's it! She can't eat all the 'Stangs but will die trying.

Wish we could ship her to Alberta, Shes awsome and would probably get along with my other half husky.
