  • 89' Dodge Help

    Guys,

I'm in Orlando and trying to help my uncle get his 89' Dodge running. He replaced the ignition...plugs, wires, cap and rotor, but it still doesn't run. We got it going after we realized the cap wire was loose...but after a few seconds it would die. We tried to start it again and it would start after turning it for a few seconds...run...and die.

The battery is fine...it runs smooth when it runs but just won't stay running. I suspect fuel delivery issues, but well I come for enlightment. Do you think the computer would be another culprit?

    Thanks fellas'.

It could be the computer. A friend went though this on an 89 Caravan. Went though every part and tons of dough before they asked if the computer could be bad. It was difficult to get the part anywhere except the dealer too. So yes, it sure could be the computer.

check the fuel pressure and volume..... if the pump is going south there may be enough to start but not stay running.

What kind of Dodge is it Chris?

If it seems to run normal while it actually is running, it could very well be fuel. Find the schrader valve and check the pressure. Also check the regulator. A regulator that old could very well have gone bad. Also check the fuel filter of course, or just replace it.

oh yeah Kev, failed to mention its a van...cargo. It's running now...well, sorta. LOL! Not really funny...but yeah, it is. Seems like it's just a fuel issue...time for a new pump and filter...

          Thanks homies.
