  • 142 MPH ???

A few guys that I work with said they saw on TV this morning where some kid(17) was caght doing 142 mph and when pulled over and asked why, he said he had to get home to do his chores or something. And apparently the cops let him go? I was just wondering if anyone else saw or heard about this. I guess this happen somewhere in indiana.

I guess they did let him off...
Sounds to me like a bunch of BS and he just wanted to see how fast his Ipreza would go. I would believe it maybe if he was in some other kind of car. I have to admit I have done things like that a time or two though.
Here is some of the story

No way any cop would let anyone drive those speeds and get off without punishment. If he did.. the cop should be fired.

The article said that he is facing speeding & reckless driving charges. He will be loosing his license.

I was just reffering to the fact that he was let go on the spot. I was going 21 over in Arizona once and the officer said I could have gone to jail for that. This guy was going 142 and the cop let him go home.

this is a subject that i am very familar with i just turned 21 last month and i have 25 tickets. all states and county is different with traffic violations. i've been busted for 28 over and just got a ticket didn't even have to show in court however i do have a lawyer and a very good one at that. i do have friends that have been busted for more than 30 over which in my county is supposed to be arrest but they let him go he ended up with probation and a ticket. if the kid got a good lawyer i wouldnt be suprised if he got off with some probation and maybe community service.

ha ha no sorry it's not from me you must of missed when i mentioned that i have a really good lawyer. of the tickets made it on my record with the exception of three just because two of them the particular county wouldn't let me get them reduced and the other one was my first ticket. there for i really have a better driving record than most. i hate to disappoint but the reason that the insurance is so high definately would not be my fault. i do have alot of money invested in those tickets unfortunately. somewhere upwards of 5k. my lawyer gives me a discount though. i think i'm gonna send them a x-mas card

yeah but if i wouldn't have dropped the money i wouldn't have my license. i really only have one on my record now because it's been over 3 years. but yeah you're right if i had the money that i've spent on tickets then i wouldn't be on tax returns to finish the odds and ends on the mod lidt that i'm doin now, oh well that's the way it goes. cost's alot of money to go fast. unfortunately it draws the attention of the Highway Patrol as well.....

oh it's cool i get crap for it all the time i'm a pretty laid back kinda guy. well see that includes all of my tickets from the stupid bs ones like seat belt (3), loud and exessive (1), failer to properly mount front license plate (2), all the way up to excessive exceleration, and CNI. I'm not saying that's any better or anything but no i guess i haven't learned yet. i have horrible luck and i think i'm addicted to going fast i should definately learn soon though.

Again, not a personal attack, but:
25 tickets by the time you are 21- what's that, 5 years of driving?

It might seem you were a little careless or unaware of your surroundings-

How long can you keep driving like this before your luck runs out, or the law of averages catches up? If you make a mistake at 80 or 90 MPH, what do you think happens? Press "reset" and start over? Not likely- you will probably total your car, maybe sustain some serious injuries. You may take out another innocent motorists, hurting or killing someone who is just minding their own business. Is it worth it?

I think that is what the guy who wrote "that is why my insurance is so high" was refering to. Many people think that we only drive these cars because we are reckless and irresponsible, and acting like this just gives them more ammo. I already know how fast my car is, and I don't need to "prove" it to anybody.

i understand where you're comin from completely it's not that i drive horribly fast everywhere i go. and i have had lot's of close calls. i don't do it very often when there are other people around. and usually when i'm alone. don't forget not all of those tickets are wreckless driving or speeding. you're barkin up the wrong tree with the "restart button" remark. I'm probably one of the most realistic people you'll ever meet or speak to. i completely understand what could or might happen. that's why i usually do it when i'm alone. if i notice that a car has kids in it or a kids seat i won't pass them "2 lane road" i don't want to even chance it i just wait till they turn off or i do. and i only have got two tickets in my T/A so it's not me fueling those theory's i understand that your reply wasn't meant as a personal attack and i don't mean this reply as an attack either. i completly understand where you're coming from and i take criticism well. but you shouldn't assume that everyone out there is a horrible driver with no skills. but i appreciate the feed back
