When I envisioned myself restoring a '73 Chevy, this is not quite what I had in mind. My wife and I are taking possession of a '73 motor home. We're getting it for free, and would like to fix it up. It's not in horrible condition, but it's showing it's 34 years. It's vintage '70s, even has shag carpeting on the doors!! It'll be a good opportunity for me to really get some experience at body work, paint, engine, etc. As for the inside, it needs new (or redone) cabinets, flooring, and upholstery. And that shag carpet has to go. Among other things.
The camper is based on a '73 C-30 truck. I know virtually nothing about these vehicles, so any input anyone wants to give is greatly appreciated. I don't know what engine is in it yet (other than it's a V8), until I look at the documentation.
This will be a long-term project, as we get the money and motivation to slowly work on it. First up will probably be work on the engine and tranny. At least get it running reliably before we start on other things. It starts and runs now, but from what I'm told the fan belt is constantly loosening itself, and there appears to be a leak at the back of the tranny, where the driveshaft comes out. It supposedly only has about 50,000 miles on it.
We're picking it up this weekend, hopefully. I'll post some pictures when we get it home. And will definately keep everyone updtaed on the project as it goes, although it will likely be spring until any work starts.
