  • Identity theft...

So I fell victim to identity theft. All this GD online ordering I guess. They closed my account and I haven't been able to spend any money off my credit/debit since the 13th. I was quite embarressed when I got denied for 6 bucks at the gas station with 10 people in line behind me, knowing there were a few hundies in the bank. Had him run it again, and sure enough, it was denied. Checked my account when I got to work and the money was there.

Wonder what else is messed up. I should run my credit report huh? Careful guys, I never thought this would happen to me!

I would suggest the credit report, as well as freezing your credit, so the thief cannot open any new cards under your name.

That sucks, I wonder how much information he got?

best advice has already been posted. Freeze your credit.

The three agencies can assist you. It will cost you $10 to get a State Notary to sign the documentation needed, and I believe it will be good for 6 months or a year, you then can do it again when that time is up, but will have to shell out the $10 for the notary again. Very Well Worth the hassle. This will freeze the crook in his tracks!

Criminals are by nature - lazy, once you give them a reason to move on, they usually won't bug you again.

Ya know, my insurance rates skyrocketed this year, AAA said it was just because rates change all the time. I think that some places use credit reports to help determine rates though. Maybe this has something to do with it.

Did you look up your credit score yet? Or freeze your credit? Have you used your free credit report for the year yet?

If you have a Washington Mutual or Providian credit card, and sign up for the free online account management, you can check your credit score online for free, anytime. That's the way I track mine...it's updated every 20th of the month.

Identity theft can create a lot of uncertainty, especially when you are not sure what information may have been used or what records could be affected. Checking financial accounts and credit activity quickly is a good first step, and keeping an eye on official ID related records is useful too. For Qatar residents, you can check here to review guidance on checking fines and related records through the proper channels.
