  • Possible stolen cars...how to find out

OK...here in Edison, NJ where I work, we have three Chevy Lumina's with PA plates that have not moved in over two years. The front tires are flat (been sitting so long) and no one knows who they belong to. I have the VIN's on two of them, but don't know how to find out who the owner is. I'm thinking they were dumped after a business lease ended and reported stolen. Any ideas?

I'd ask the Edison cops (again) for help, but, no offense to Taso, following up on this case interferes with the local cops cashing there $100,000+ a year checks.

These things kill us when it snows. Can't plow the spaces out properly.

Im sure you can just have them towed away & let the tow company deal with it. They are in a private parking lot? Right?

Well...sort of. We share a very large parking lot with dozens of businesses. As such, our building's landlord doesn't want to proceed because he doesn't know who's vehicles they are. Kind of a catch 22. We want to find out who the owner is to have them removed, but can't have them removed until we find out who owns them. Because we don't have assigned parking spaces and don't own the lot, we can't have them removed since they may be legally owned by one of the businesses. Silly...I know.

Of course.. Why didnt i think of it before... Ask the DMV! Im not sure about PA but I know NJ will give you the owners information if you request it. Its worth a shot.

Usually you can get the DMV to give you the information but it also costs money...

Final option if you dont want to spend any $$ is to put a note on the car telling the owner to contact you within a week or the car will be removed.
