V TEch shooting

Here are the facts I have gathered from today as of 10:00 am central.

1. 33 dead including the shooter, 25 plus wounded
2. Shooter is South Korean, 23 year old. A senior at VTECH majoring in English. Maroon hat, black leather jacket. Didn't say a word while he did the shootings. Name: Cho Seung-Hui
3. Attacked a dorm room building then two hours later hit a classrooms making it look like a planned shooting. 2 killed in the dorm. 30 Killed in the classroom
4. Had a 9 mm and a .22
5. Chained doors to prevent people from fleeing or the police entering
6. Shooter killed himself.
7. Not known if he was wearing armor.

This Type of thing makes me sick. Whats shocking it was someone of Asian decent. I dont understand why things like this happen. I know some people say is bad to Hold anger for people that do this, But personally, People like this should have a fast pass to the Chair, forget the needle. I guess he took care of the governments dirty work. Yeah my heart goes out to the families.

I'm VT alumni. It's horrible to think of such a thing happening in Blacksburg. It's a quiet little town where the worst thing around might be a few drunken disorderly students. Unfortunately, for some time now, when people think Blacksburg or Virginia Tech, this is what they'll remember.

I'm dumbfounded that someone could be so rotten...can't think of the words to describe it.

There is something goin on there, if I remember correctly, there was a shooting there back in August and there has been multiple bomb threats also, one of those being yesturday or in the last few days.

Stuff like this makes me beleive that teachers should have the right to carry firearms in school if they feel they need to.....(proper training of course)

This kind of stuff is just absolutely nuts to me. Everybody has problems in life, but when you resort to killing people you don't even know for no reason, I just absolutely have no sympathy for somebody like that. It's a good thing that these psychos are killing themselves because the likelyhood of them ever making it to trial would be very slim.

I hate to make it sound like a pro gun speech here, but there's no other way around it. It is my opinion that the ONLY places that should not allow firearms are government offices. Just imagine if only 15% of the people at VT chose to carry a firearm, if given the right and able to pass the background check. This guy would not have made it out of the first building after he had only shot 2 people. But if by some chance he did make it out, he might have gotten off 3 or 4 shots before he was dropped by a person in that classroom. You take the guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens and you have an infinite supply of victims.

The problem with 15% of people carrying guns is what happens when those kids are having a bad day and some guy punches them or something.

And then of course the other side if you do ban guns then only bad people have them.

We don't mean just carry guns but legally carry gun with a license process. Al states have a law that you have to be at least 18 years old and have a background check to get a license for a carry permit.

I can't believe what he did with 2 handguns...haven't there been a lot of cooks with automatics and shotguns, yet the casualty toll was way less? He must have been really prepared

I am a permit holder, and my post was meant to imply people who are licensed to carry. People with proper training and any amount of common sense knows when to use it and when not to use it. A lot of people could easily carry a firearm, they just either haven't had a reason to or don't know how. Of course the media would never help you to learn how to do it, so it's up to you to do the research. All it would have taken today was one logical person with a firearm and all the tragedy of today could have been avoided.

Yes, and maybe even the possiblity that someone might have been armed would have changed what he did.

This is exactly the point that the gun-ban people just can't seem to understand. Guns don't make people evil, they are just a tool of the person using them. Criminals/nuts don't obey the law. Taking guns away from the law-abiding just makes them easy victims of the scofflaws.
