Did anyone notice that one article described the killer as purchasing and using two high power pistols? They were, from what I can find, a 9mm and a 22 cal. Not exactly high power, but it illustrates how the media can manipulate those who have little knowledge of firearms.

That's what I thought too but do you know what Browning calls their 9mm pistol? They call it the "9mm high power". My brother-in-law has had one for over 30 years.

That's exactly right. "Assault riffles" are capable out of the factory of fully automatic firing. The definition that the US federal government has taken is wrong.

Yeah. The Gov. is using "assault weapon", which gets confused with "assault rifle" by folks that don' know any better.

The media is very good at causing confusion also...

i refuse to be a victim and will what i can not to be one.

I'm not for or against guns...actually, I'm for it...why, because I refuse to be a victim. Every has a valid point...all to which has some sort of substance, but removing guns will only open the door for moderation of other "weapons" as Jeff said...which means more Government. I'm not a big fan of -more- government.

In the pictures that I've seen, it looks like a Glock 17, which uses a standard 9mm Lugger Cartridge. I actually own a compensated version of this. Never have I seen the words "High Power," on either the ammo or the gun though. Im guessing it might have somehow come from the fact that he used hollow tip ammunition.

To add to the discussion, you can't blame a gun for a murder, anymore than you can blame your pencil for mispelling a word. This incident should serve as a prime example to further protect and enforce our second ammendment right. However, I don't see this happening. I even heard some idiot reporter complaining about hollow tiped ammunition and how that showed be outlawed becaused it's "made to kill!" Ill quit my ranting here.....

I saw that same "made to kill" quote as well. You know what, all ammunition is "made to kill"!!!

You could make the argument that hollow points are actually safer, because there is less chance for the round to penetrate through and hit something behind the target...the exact reason law enforcement use it.

and the stopping power is greater. law enforcement also uses less velocity.

I'm going to comment on something that I ususally don't like to comment on.

More people have been killed by people than have been killed by guns. That's the bottom line. Now that doesn't mean I am for guns, it doesn't mean that I'm against guns. All that it means is that folks should look real hard at the true issue. Instability in people. If guns didn't exist, nutcases will simply use the next readly available tool that could be used to kill. A hammer, a screwdriver, a knife, a spear, a rock....... bare hands...... how much further would we have to go back to show tools of destruction? The stone age had murders too.

Allthough if the guy in VT's case would have had any of the "weapons" that you mentioned, the outcome would have never been as horrible as it was. Somebody would have surely tried to stop him.

But with two guns in his hands, what would you do?

How many shots did he fire again?

lets hope she gets lots of support from family and local law enforcement. she killed two people... granted...it saved her life, but its still something tough to face.

The story is great...but there's no proof this really happened. I'd like to believe this is real...but I can't find anything from a search myself.
