  • NJ Governor critcal after accident - what the "black box" said!

Update on some 3-day old news....

Two car convoy leaving Atlantic City on the Garden State Parkway (limited access, toll, 2 lanes Northbound), to take the Governor to a meeting between the Rutgers ladies basketball team and Don Imus. Lead vehicle is described as an "SUV" (appears to have been a Tahoe or Suburban), driven by an NJ State Trooper, Governor in the front passenger seat - no seat belt, violation of State law - a female aide in the back seat.

Vehicles are travelling with flashing red lights. Two pickup trucks travelling at lower speeds pull to the right to make way. One pickup pulls onto the shoulder, continuing to drive, the second truck goes into the right hand lane next to him. Truck on shoulder makes a sudden move left "to avoid a mile marker", truck in right lane veers left, contacting the State SUV. SUV goes out of control, through a guard rail (portion of guard rail penetrates vehicle), end up in a ditch. No airbags appear to have deployed.

Black box shows that the SUV was travelling at 91 MPH 5 seconds before impact.

Governor is critically injured, in intensive care, under full sedation with:
    -broken sternum
    -12 broken ribs
    -compound fracture of femur
    -numerous minor injuries

Belted Trooper and aide suffer minor scrapes.

The ultimate case of big government telling us to "do as I say, not as I do". Everyone is asking when the Trooper will be ticketed for failing to require his passenger to wear a seat belt, as required by State law (may have been issued by now). Substantial debate over whther a meeting with Don Imus justified the 91 MPH speeds.

There's a lot of anger over this.... after expressing sympathy and hope for a quick recovery, a lot of critical questions are being asked about the irresponsible actions of the driver and the Governor.

Wow thats crazy, yet, somehow, not suprising. That whole controversy was a crock of SHHHtuff to begin with. Why does it feel like this country is in a downward spiral?

That's what stinks... Elected officials make the laws, but they believe they are above the law...

It's not just elected officials that do this. I think it is just success goes to their heads that makes them feel like they are better than everyone else and don't have to follow the rules. For example, My manger made me the "process owner" of our CAD software and the server we save our files on. Many years ago my manager and her manager set up this system where we are to save all of our data on the server so that everyone could access it and it is backed up. Since then my manager's manager has moved up the corporate ladder. He still uses the CAD software though. He refuses to use the server because he says it slows him down. I approached him and told him he needed to start using it mostly because he was working with other people and they needed to get to the files. He got mad and turned it around to me being "hard to work with" and now he has to go to someone else for help and had my manager put it on my performance review. I had to write a rebuttal to my review and I told my manager what happened. He said that it should have been on his review not mine. So my question is what do you do with people that don't follow the processes and they are above you on the org chart? You have no power over them just like the governor. In New Jersey it looks like there was some karma that came back to punish him. Personally I feel like the same thing happened to a lot of republicans over the last 10 years. The power went to their heads and they forgot why they got put in there. The people have revolted and voted a lot of them out. Now it is shifting and it certainly has gone to the head of the speaker of the house.

What is that phrase that's something like "ultimate power corrupts ultimately"?

The NFL suspends players now that don't "play" by the rules.

He should be suspended or even better fired.

He probably made the driver go faster. Didn't feel sorry for the guy from the getgo when I heard he wasn't wearing the seatbelt.

I guess next time you don't wear a seatbelt and a tropper stops you, you have a good excuse. The trooper didn't make the gouvenor wear his! So you can't make me wear one either.

I know it doesn't work like that because we are just average Joe's.

Speaking of the NFL, how about mario williams? He was caught on tape speeding down some road, a person following and taping said that they were going 130mph and were not able to keep up. He was in a lambo, I guess when you have more money then you can spend, you start blowing your 9 lives. And when you have power, the laws don't apply anymore.

                Latest news:

Apparently, they say the Trooper wasn't paying attention either. How do they know? A man contacted the police stating it was because the Trooper was either text messaging or talking to his wife on the phone. Apparently, they're having an affair! This Trooper is in a lot of trouble...

"Absolute power corrupts absolutely." This is true in all forms of life not just government as shown above. Thats why all government services are terrible, when there is no incentive to work, do something well, there is no gain, or does not serve thier interest in any way, most humans will just plod along not caring one way or the other.
I have never dealt with a government agency of any kind that I would call efficient. Most I would call absolutely hopeless. I am sure its the same with all governments everywhere.
Thomas Jefferson said, "the government which governs least governs best".
Surely we need government for some things such as a monetary system, military, but it seems like they are in control of everything.

NJ has a reputation as the most corrupt in the nation when it comes to the State government. US Attroney Chris Christy, in the past few years has indicted over 105 top level State, County and Municipal officials, and has yet to lose a case against any of them.

The legislature is constantly passing nit-picking laws telling us what we can and can't do.... yet a bill the makes it illegal for anyone to give money to an official to get the inside track on no-bid contracts (aka "pay to play") seems bogged down in committies that can't seem to find the time to push it to a vote. A bill that would make the holding of multiple government positions to "pad" pensions (some NJ officials are entitled to pensions of more than $200,000/year as a result of holding up to 12 different government jobs simultaneously) suffers the same fate.

Maybe the Corzine incident will make people wake up to the fact that these people are as dishonest as they can be, and have this holier-than-thou attitude that wants to tell us what we can and can't do - while they do just the opposite.

But I doubt it.... I'm convinced that the phrase "dumber than dirt" was coined to describe the vast majority of NJ residents.

An update if you haven't heard: The governor has been released from the hospital and has apologized to the state's residents for setting a bad example. He is paying for all of his medical care out of his own pocket (he is a multimillionaire) so taxpayers need not worry about picking up the bill.

Another update for those who care; Corzine asked for a ticket and paid a $46 fine for not wearing seatbelt.

I know a lot of people (who have never been involved in an accident ever) who don't wear their seatbelts. It's a shame that most people have to learn the hard way. I know one politician in NJ who will wear his seatbelt from now on. . . .
