I do this on this date. My son was killed 3 years ago this day.

My son was killed on this day three years ago. he was 27. he was driving a Dodge Ram full size pickup......late 80's model. dropped a right front tire in a ditch in a slow sweep corner... tried to correct and pull it out by staying on it....... A arm broke..... truck went airborne on its right side into the woods. His girlfriend was with him. hit a tree dead on. Neither were wearing seat belts. She went under the dash. Has had complete eye socket reconstruction and facial surgery. He went thru the windshield and straight into the tree. And I saw the scene days later. (lived 200 miles from us).

    Folks.

Wear your damn seatbelts. Wear em.

    have a good night.

Your annual posting always makes me sit back and think when I get into my car. I wear my seat belt nearly all the time. I do get lazy, however. It's an awful habit that I'm working on.

Thanks again for posting, Ken. I know it can't be easy, but it makes a difference.

I know I'll never forget...won't allow anyone in my cars unless they strap up.

Ken...your son's legacy is that I'll never drive again without strapping in first...that's for sure.

Sorry about your son, Ken- First time I had heard this. I am terrified of my boy learning to drive, he is 13 and still cautious- not sure when that sense if invulnerability kicks in. I know I had it when I was in my 20's, not afraid to try anything. I am a lot more conservative these days, even quit riding the motorcycle-

I know we don't live forever, but I want to be around and enjoy as much of it as I can. I hope, when I cross that final bridge, some of my favorite canines are there for me- that would almost make it all worthwhile-

To those who still dont wear their seatbelts...

I was one of you. I never wore my seatbelt. That was till about a year ago when I was in a serious accident. An elderly woman made a left in front of me & I collided with her at 50mph. I was lucky, I spent several months in physical therapy, but I lived. Ever since that accident, my belt is fastened before my car goes into gear. That accident really woke me up to realize the danger we all put ourselves in everyday.
