  • To buy or not to buy...

I'm hoping to get a few opinions here for a selling dilema.

Just recently, I have been going through some very tough times with my better half, he has been battling with depression and just come clean with a gambling addiction. Not too serious, but all in all just the same, serious enough. He has made some bad financial decisions lately without my knowledge, and I now have to deal with a loan he just took out.

Here's my question. He's got a 1973 Camaro Z28 clone that he just purchased last year, it's got a 396 big block, lots of diff. bells and whistles, but after having his 4:11's taken out and the 3:73's put in, the trans went. I really need to get this thing up for sale ASAP in order to take care of his loan. Would it make more sense to spend $500 for a rebuild/rebuilt trans, or would I still get the value of this car whether the trans was working or not? I just need to know if someone would be willing to pay more for the car if I have it fixed. Really just the same, someone could spend $500 fixing it themselves, that's why I'm having the dilema. Any ideas?? Thanks for hearing me babble......

Personally, I would have a problem buying a car that I could not drive first.

I have a feeling that with the trans not working buyers are going to be expecting you to lower your asking price much more since "it doesn't even move...".

I think overall you'll have a better chance of finding the right buyer if the car is completely operable.

Totally agree. Fix it before you sell it. You will get more $ in the end.

Definitely fix it if at all possible.

I wouldn't buy a car like that without the luxury of a test drive.

        Good luck!
