no matter what, ur pet is part of ur life. just found out today that my german shepard/chow mix might have cancer, shes got two lumps on her throat shes 9 years old, we rescued her from my moms work where she was dumped after the old "owners" tried to kill her to no avail(but they killed her brother) so shes always had a special spot in my heart cuz of that and i vowed to seriousily hurt them if i ever found out who they were. and i think my Golden is developing either arthritis(sp?) or shoulder seperation. i love my golden, my fav type of dog is a golden retreiver(this is my 4th one) i love him almost more then my gf. when ever i went for a cruise in my old t/a id bring him for the ride. he liked sticking his head outta the t-tops it hurts to kno they cant be with me forever

So sorry to hear about her. Keep your hopes up though, my 8yr old German Shepherd has a lump on the base of the tail that they think is cancer too. The only reason why they have tested it yet is because they found out he had heartworms at the same time, and needed to treat him for that before putting him under to remove the tumor. However, the vet told me there are 3 types of tumors, just one being the more serious cancerous one. Torro's (his name) tumor has not gotten any bigger, so that is a good sign. Our last dog, Lucky, was 16yrs old and had little tumor type things ALL over her body. Literally lumps everwhere, but they were not cancerous. So keep your hopes up, and don't spend a dull moment with her

yes, we lost Bandit, our shep/mal mix at 10 to cancer... he went from 118lbs to 86 lbs in two months... terrible disease for a person or dog... and its our fault..wev'e polluted the earth... when i was growing up, you never heard of dogs with cancer. im real sorry and hope he's not got it.

goldens are awesome for sure. i love ours to death... arthritis is common. we have had two of ours on gluclosimine for a long time to help prevent it/slow it down.. hip disorders can be common as well. my wife knows all there is to know about goldens and the stuff you can help prevent if you want to email her. just pm me for her addy. as you might know, she's the intake coordinator for http://www.grreat.org

We've been going through health issues with our dog, Bear, for the past couple years, so I can surely relate. It's very emotionally stressfull, not to mention the financial strain that comes with it all. They become a treasured member of your family. Our thoughts and prays are with you, keep your chin up, you've given your pup a great life and you are doing all you can, the rest is out of your hands.

I also love Goldens. That's why I was all for rescuing Shea, our now 8 month old pure breed. She's awesome. Great with my kids, all under 6 years old. I didn't realize arthritis was common with Goldens. I'll have to look into it.

I love how theres some many pet lovers on this site.

Just keeping loving her, playing with her, being with her and she'll be happy. Cherish the moments because I'm sure she does.

My last dog was a golden and she died suddenly at the age of 3. She went very peaceful and I still miss her today. They never leave.

On that note: I'm going to take a long lunch and go play with Bert.

I lost my Beagle, Dexter a few years ago...I get emotional when I see other Beagles. I still can't get myself to find another one. Still hurts too much. I loved him...the amount of energy and how playful he was. He'd put his nose on the ground and just go, sniffing away. I still remember his eyes and the way he used to look at me.

                  Wowser...gotta go.

I lost my minature schnauzer Zoe about 5 years ago. She had a tendency to run out the door when people knocked which she did and found her way to a busy street...

I felt the same way thinking I didn't want another dog but my Mom and sister insisted I needed one and in fact were actively looking for one for me. My sister visited the humane society in her town and didn't find me a schnauzer but did find a boston terrier that she adopted (they already had one).

Eventually they did find a sister/sister pair and I got one sister and my Mom kept the other.

So actually, as sad as the death of one dog was it led to three others finding good homes.

Now, I feel just as close to Kira and I did to Zoe.

And what's not to love about this face...

I do mi amigo. I am away from home for too many hours. There's no fenced in yard, no opportunity to let them out for 12 hour periods, sometimes longer. It's not fair to them... not healthy either. I miss mine and when living circumstances change I'll have them again.
