  • Cat replacement on the GN

So, lately I've been hearing a little bit of a rattling from underneath the car. I crawl underneath and everything looks fine, but I started her up and got under again...and its coming from the cat. Looks like the ATR cat that I've been running for 8+ yrs. lost the brick, or rather the brick has come loose and rattling around from the sound of it. So, is there any specific cat you guys would recommend as a replacement? I was thinking about this one from Magnaflow at Summit...

    MagnaFlow Direct-Fit Catalytic Converters: MPE-93439

    Thanks in advance.

One little problem...for the cost of one of their cats for the GN, I could get a 3" downpipe and 3" high-flow cat from Poston. I can't justify that cost for just a cat. Any others guys?

Car Sound is a decent, cheap alternative, but when I looked, I didn't see an application for a turbo 3.8... Just non-turbo.

I had a Car Sound high-flow cat on my '84 Grand Prix with the 3.8L. Of course, that was non-turbo.

For the price, the MagnaFlow seems like a pretty killer deal. Direct fit to boot!

Carsound cats are now Magnaflow cats, so the link I posted is a Carsound cat . I'm running a Carsound/Magnaflow cat on the Z without any problems, but am still open to other suggestions. Poston has a high-flow direct replacement for $159 that I'm also considering.

Learn something new every day. I didn't realize MagnaFlow and Car Sound merged or whatever.

I had great luck with the one I had. My brother had one on his old '77 Z28 as well.

that's the one i run on my car, only the day i bought it i punched it out hollow. even with no emissions equipment, a hollow cat converter... i still pass echeck as easily as new cars. that converter is only 14 inch, the longer 19.5 inch is 73 bucks.

The problem is that I need the flange on the back end of the cat for the hanger, otherwise there's too much pressure on the downpipe and the turbo. Hence why I'm looking for a cat for the car and not a universal.

At this point, I think I've narrowed it down to either the Magnaflow unit or the Poston unit. Thanks for the help guys.
