I have owned two DOHC V8s and pushrods win in my book for performance and fun to drive. The OHC's didn't make power until up around 3500-4000 rpm where the pushrod engines had a lot of grunt right off of idle. I didn't like having to wind the snot out of my engine to feel acceleration, and having to wait for the power to come on. Of the dozen or so Cobra replicas around town ( I know this is an F-Body forum
) a couple have been built using the modern Ford SOHC and DOHC engines. I built mine with a basic 302, and I leave them WAY behind thru 1st gear....
And 2nd...
And 3rd...
They do start to catch back up...once I take my foot off the gas.
