We just traded in the wife's minivan ('04 Honda Oddessy) for a 2002 Volvo S60. The car is in unbelievable condition in and out. The price, mileage, and condition was too good to pass on.
We decided to trade in the van for a few reasons. One being the lack of an all wheel drive vehicle in our garage. Living in New England, it's a necessity for the most part. Since I sold my Bravada, we haven't had anything AWD for the past two winters. The last snowstorm really p#%sed me off and that did it.
The van was reliable, but it wasn't all that great on gas, and it was getting up there in miles. The Volvo is rated better for fuel economy, and it's AWD to boot. I test drove it last night and we decided to go with it. It's a 2.4 liter, 5 cylinder turbo, so it moves out pretty good. The ride and handling were pretty impressive.
The biggest plus for me is when I have to take her car. I really hated driving the van. People just respect you less on the road. I can't count the amount of times someone would cut me off just because they assumed I was a soccer mom. Beside that, it just wasn't any fun to drive. Now... I'll have no problem taking her car when necessary.
We don't pick it up until the weekend. I'll try to post some pics. Until then... Here's an exact copy of her car. Same color and year. I found it in Motor Trend's archives...
