  • Ken C...........another tire question for you

    Ken

Several months ago I purchased 4 Cooper Zeon tires for my SS. I really like the tires but I was wondering if you would know why the sidewalls get a white powrdery residue on them? I had this problem once before in the 80's on a set of Dunlop tires. I never could get a good answer then on what causes this condition. The "powder" wipes right off but then comes back no matter what I have tried. I clean the tires thoroughly and use Zaino tire dressing but I still get the powdery residue. Here's a picture.

I may have to contact Cooper directly to get an answer but I thought I would ask you first since you know so much about tires.

    Thanks.

I have seen BFGoodrich tires do the same thing except in a brown powder. I thought it was due to tire flex.

its overkill from the factory on ozone protection. seriously. dont worry about it..just clean it off. my michelins do it on the Envoy too. happens sometimes when they put too much ozone protection chemicals in the compounds...

flexing heat causes it to begin to migrate, and because of the internal pressure from the air, it heads "out".

            Thanks for the replies.

I do know the problem never went away on my old Dunlops even after they were a few years old. I hope eventually it will go away on these tires but if not I'll just keep wiping them down.
