Those two have my vote. I watched Buddy rehearse a long time back. He played everything by ear. He had the band play the tune first so that he could listen to what he needed to hear, then the second time though he nails it.

    Niel Pert....... awesome.

agreed. those two are awesome! those weo used there imagination so much. I thinkin the 80'90's they got away from that but i think this last 8 or so yrs they quility of drummers is improved greatly. I know alot of people arent into the heavier music but it takes alot of skill imagination and phisical ability's.

I have been playing since I was about 13.

My inspirations have to be Mike Portnoy and Vinnie Paul.

I personally think its between Mike, Vinnie or Niel Pert.

                            I'd go with:

                            Niel Pert (No explanation needed)

Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater is great, and he really sets up their sound)

John Bonham (Moby Dick was epic, and that wasn't even his best work)

Haven't heard enough Buddy Rich to comment on, but what I di hear was incredible.

As a life long musician, I agree..... He was the finest I've ever heard. He was also an overbearing and obnoxious butthole who treated his band members like dog poo. All that aside, still the greatest.
