  • He lives!!!!

Hey guys! Yes, I'm still kickin' (and trying to kick a cold right now, hence why I actually have time to post). Life's been pretty hectic lately, but in a good way. My g/f and I just celebrated 6 mo. of dating last Fri. (cheesy, I know, but a good excuse to spoil her ). No, I still haven't fixed the Z up yet...that's coming later this year. Right now I'm in the middle of re-working the suspension on the GN. The springs and shocks were shot and, I figured, why not do some upgrading while I'm in there. So, here's the list, front to back...

ES poly bushings and end-links for the front sway bar
New rotors, bearings and hardware for the front brakes
    Hawk ceramic pads
    Kirban front springs
    Bilstein front shocks
Spohn chrome-moly lower A-arms w/ poly bushings and hardware
    Russell SS brake lines
Spohn boxed LCAs w/ poly bushings & hardware
Spohn adj. UCAs w/ poly bushings & hardware
    Kirban rear springs
    Bilstein rear shocks
Bendix shoes and new drum hardware

Craig and I are about half-way through the front and already the car sits much better (hardly any left-rear sag). Pics to come soon. So, with all that work on the GN, plus work and spoiling the heck outta my g/f, its been hard to poke my head up and see what's going on. Hope all is well everyone.

    Steve....

replace the body bushings. You wouln't believe how it firms up the whole structure. Many GNs didn't get the full compliment of bushings either. Supposedly it was meant to soften some of the vibrations transmitted to the tub. That may also have an effect on how the body sits on the frame...... could be contributing to the sag.

Speaking of GN's, my friend just got his running. He's got a rebuilt motor with a huge intercooler and a turbo which will be running about 20 PSI. Can't wait to go for a ride in that monstrosity.

Yeah, I read about that. That will be the next phase of upgrades, as I've already got an ES kit on my wish list at Summit. Thanks for the tip Joe

                    Time for some pics

Here's a comparison of the stock front driver's-side and one of the new Kirban springs,...

...the old driver's-side lower A-arm and the new Spohn pass.-side lower A-arm,...

                    ...the old driver's-side lower A-arm...

...and the new Spohn pass.-side lower A-arm...

Yes, the springs are stock-height springs, but are supposed to be 20% stiffer than the originals. After installing the front springs alone, 95% of the driver's-side lean is gone. I'd imagine that the rear springs will take care of the rest. More pics to come.

Yes they are, thank you! Not sure exactly how much, but I know at least a few pounds. I could feel the difference by holding one in each hand. For the most part, everything lined up perfectly once we got the arms into place. The last think to bolt on to them is the sway bar, but that shouldn't be a problem. I'll post more pics as I take them.

Unfortunately, the news ones don't have the stops. Price you pay for chrome-moly arms I guess. The uppers have stops though, so I'm not worried about it.
