  • Stimulus plan not cool...

The stimulus plan reads that citizens that are dependent are not qualified for the stimulus check. This basically says that any college student will not be receiving the 600 dollar check from the IRS. This is totally not fair and since college students are over 17, parents don't receive the extra 300 per child. I hate complaining, but c'mon, It really could of helped pay for my summer class books and the gas I will be spending to drive to school. Last semester I had 6 classes (18 credits) and worked roughly 20-25 hours a week. Im pretty sure that someone my age who doesnt go to college will receive the check because they cannot be considered dependent anymore?

I just had to vent a little, that extra 600 could have really helped me out this summer.

No doubt you're right, but did you pay any income tax?

      I HEAR YOU!

I was completely pissed off when I found out. My parents get $100 for claiming me, but the IRS even wrote in some legal jumbo into the plan so they don't even get that $100 child credit.

      HOWEVER,

if you become eligible (independent) during the 2008 tax year I do believe you can collect it on your 2008 tax rebate or something like that.

Still on mine. According to the stimulus package calculator website, I will be getting my tax payment back and that's all.

I was hoping for the $600 that they were talking about, not that it would go all that far these days. I could spend almost 10% of that to fill my car once!
