  • Hey Ken the Tire Guru...

I know you've been preaching stuff for years about tires so I wanted to ask ya about this story... how has this happened? What is the guberment going to do about this? What is the recommended age to dispose of tires, regardless of tread wear?

LOL... this is a subject in the tire industry, the Federal Govt. (and is now) , Dept of Defense, and vendors.....for years and years.

No number has been formally placed on the age. A lot has to do with proper storage. In order for a number to be placed, all parties have to be in agreement or the party that sets the number, other than industry, may be in for a major law suit.

Off the record and personally, i would not buy one over 5 years old. DOD wont buy one over 8 years old or use one in storage that old.
