The Valentine1 is always best...that's why I have one. Though I don't even speed. It just looks cool...but saved me plenty of times when I do speed going out of town.

valentine 1 . It points to the location of the source and how many sources it detects, so you can tell if a cop is using a wal-mart to cover his signal in the noise, if you notice 1 more than usual.Rhode Island Red *Lurker since 1997*

Over the last 2+ decades, I have owned several Escorts and Passports, from the days when Mike Valentine worked at Cincinnati Microwave- I also read all the magazine tests, and tried to save a buck when I could. I bought a Whisteler Spectrum, top-rated at the time, and a BEL Vector- again, cheaper and top-rated-
I will never go without my Valentine- bought it in '96, it has been back for upgrades twice- so it is still current with all the newer POP and Super B radars- It gives me plenty of early warning, and lets me know whether the alerts are from in front or approaching from the rear- It also counts the signals, so even though I may be getting a 'false' from a traffic light or other legitimate radar source, if there is something else there I know about it, also-
None of this makes you invulnerable- I shoot laser myself for work, and you get no warning until I pull the trigger- If you spike your brakes hard enough, you *may* keep my from getting a lock on your speed, but you might as well wave a flag and say "look here, I'm speeding!" Police uses instant-on, that generates no signal until they fire- if you are lucky, you may get a stray blip when they shoot a car in front of you, but, if traffic is light, you may be the one that gets lit up-
Bottom line- if you speed, you are at risk for tickets- face it, accept it, get over it. A good radar detector increases your safety, and is not something to save dollars on, although a cheap one is better than not haveing one- and of them make you immune, they just help- you still need to be alert to traffic and what is going on around you-2001 Z28 A4 - 160 deg t-stat, 3.42 gears, WS6 sway bars, rear springs and shocks, UMI SFC's, Torque Arm and STB, leather Firebird seats, Borla, SLP Y-pipe and lid, ZO6 cam and springs - 332 RWHP and 346 RWTQ, not bad for 'almost stock' - work in progress
