Like the article says- drive 100 MPH on a public street, and what do you think the outcome will be? It's like Russian roulette- sooner or later, your number is going to come up- You can be 'lucky' 100 times, but when it goes bad, it goes very, very bad-

"Black, the fastest color"
"finest" is not the word I would use, but I know where you are coming from.
speaking of LT1 & LS1.. I cant find it right now, but there is a list of "the worlds fastest cars"...its online, shows 1/4 mile times and speed... the 1996 LT1 Camaro SS beat the the 2000 LS1 Camaro SS by a few tenths of the second and is listed faster... interesting.
Thats truly sad. Its even worse that situations like this make my generation look horrible. I wont lie and say I have never street raced, but I am very careful when I do. Still very dangerous but Im not going to be doing close to 100mph on city streets. Thats for highway with no cars!
It is a tragedy but I hope the passenger has learned something valuable.

I hate hearing about these street racing incidents. It goes to show how something that has been glorified by movies like F&F have created serious issues with the younger generations. I know when my dad was young, street racing was done in the industrial districts, late at night when there might be only one or two 3rd shifters about (and even they were usually still in the shop, not hanging around outside) and possibly a bum or two that no one would miss. Since those times, it's become something you see in broad daylight in residential/high traffic areas.
I can't say that I haven't done it - I have. And looking back, it was stupid, wreckless, and dangerous. I got lucky enough to not hurt myself or anyone else. I'd like to say I was smart about it (never went faster than 65-70 before I let off usually, wouldn't do it in traffic, etc), but in reality there's NOTHING smart about street racing.
In the last several years, I've become a 'keep it on the track' person. I've had several individuals in various cars (usually something riced out beyond belief) want to go, and I tell them Friday night at the track, and not ONCE has one of them even wanted to show up.
