    haPPy Birthday

    o my special girl...... 6 years old today..hard to believe.

    Born Pearl Harbor day, her name "Keona" means "God's gift" in Hawaiian (Hawaii is my official home of record)... she has truly been just that. She helped ease the loss of my soul wolfdog, Nikona who passed in 2002. Keona is the official mascot of our rescue operation, WRR, and does fund raisers in public and is quite a ham for the camera. Kid's will run to their parents after meeting her " Dad! Mom! I petted a wuf!!!!!" LOL

    anyway.. its boneless skinless fresh chicken breasts tonight for her dinner!

        yep.. Time flys.. My daughter's a senior in High school and just singed to play volleyball at a D-2 school in PA. It seems like yesterday that we were taking her for her 1st volleyball tryout which was 6 years ago also...

            Yeah, she's a pretty gal- daddy's little girl, no doubt- I love her coloring, I have a GSD with identical colors, described to me as black and cream, as opposed to the more typical black and tan-

            Too bad she is so camera shy- not! I noticed the 'dog blanket' on the couch, too- made me feel right at home. The bond between humans and canines goes back to time immemorial- something that gets right into your very soul- amazing how two different species can bond so well, and take care of each other-

                  here's a good shot of her coat after her winter shed..... wolves have 3 coats in lieu of 2 for northern dog breeds, and only 1 for most others..

                  the layer next to the skin is water tight and very fine ...thin... the second one is like a down, and its the one that sheds, its gets thicker in the winter and thins out in the summer.... the third is long and wiry..and has the color patterns in it...

                    Dang 3 coats. whats clean up like during shedding seasons? My moms germand shepard clogs the hoover when she sheds.
