  • Made my stealth box today...

Made a stealth box for the passenger side of the hatch area.

I cut my plastic on the passenger side and put it over there. It fits great, but it doesn't line up as nice with the plastic back there as I had hoped.

I'll be removing the 8 gauge you see in the pic and running some 4 gauge.

I bought an Alpine V Power m500 amp. Like in the name, it's a mono 500W RMS amp. It's supposedly top of the line and the best amp for this sub.

It came out pretty good though for just a couple hours of work.

I just hoping there's enough air space in the box. I built on the box so it goes down an extra 9" but I'm not sure if that's going to be enough air space. I'm sure it will still sound good.

And yes, I did seal a thick garbage bag around the box. Being in the rear wheel well area where water goes, I don't want it getting wet. I'm sure water will get in there, I just don't want it soaking into the box. The bag is sealed enough where no water should be able to penetrate it.

It looks good and it doesn't interfere with the T top rack.

Here is an old trick. If you put some fiberglass insulation in the box, the fiberglass will effectively multiply the airspace by 1.3 . (The speaker will think the box is thicker.)

That's a good tip but make sure the manufacterer recommends it or it could void the warranty. If you calculate the volume of the box, you could find out how much to put in the box to be most effective.(or if you need any at all)

When you get it finished, lets see some more pics.

That looks Damn good! For that Speaker you should not have to much issues. Thats about 1.0-1.7 cubic feet or so? You should be fine. What You can do is Paint the exterior with some good thick paint to keep it from absorbing moisture.
Let us know how it sounds. Thats a good speaker for Sealed Enclosures so good choice. Whats the watts on that speaker? Dual 4ohm or 2ohm voice coils? Always Run 4guage or bigger. Run a hefty Fuse holder, Let me know I have a couple Very nice ones Im trying to get rid of. Some name Brand RCA's preferably with the Remote cable in the RCA cable. Makes it for such a cleaner install. All those little things add up in the end as for the Quality of sound.

I have Been wanting to do that but I have a Factory Spec Sealed Kicker L5 12" Solo-baric in a Factory box. I put it up where the tank is, buy the two latches in the rear. I still have room for the t-tops and looks cool. Put the Amp where you put the box and called it a day, and of course it had to be a matching Kicker KX600.1 Mono Class-D amp.

E, I ran the 4 gauge and a stinger fuse. That's a great idea on painting the box. I'm going to do that. I didn't think to do that.

          It's a 1 cubic foot speaker. Thats what I was told. It's 500 Watt RMS @ 2 ohms.

This is the amp I'm running...

I just hooked up the amp and holy crap. It sounds amazing. I don't know how I went without this. Kills the 10", and it's not obnoxiously loud outside. I haven't tuned the amp or anything cuz it started coming down pretty hard once I finished.

I'm happy. I'm gonna pull the box back out and paint it tonight before I put the rear interior back together.

Sounds Good. Run a big fuse, Hopefully its not the Glass fuses and its one of the Plastic/Square ones.

4 Guage power is Great. Make Sure that Ground is Damn good. Also 4 Guage. I used the Bolt that holds the Seat Belt, On the top rear of the Pass. side.

Yeah I dont know what head unit you have but If it has a crossover then put the sub at about 100hz since you have a sealed box. If it was ported then you want to run about 120+hz. Just mess with it, Took me about 3 hours total of tinkering with it so. Plus my headunit has the ability to tune every damn speaker and sub! Can be a pain! ha ha ha ha

Thats perfect if the sub+amp are both rated at 500rms watts thats good. Should run efficient without it getting hot!

My amp and sub are both same rate. I can have it blasting and the amp barely warms up.
