  • Iwas very moved today... at my retirement luncheon

my retirement luncheon.... awesome. tons of folks showed... it humbled me...

in fact, top Senior Executive Service people were there that I had delt with in the past, worked for in the past, etc. But what got me was, the second in command of GSA...the Assist. Administrator (White House) showed. I had met him years ago... he made two of the awards...a letter from the Administrator (I'm not posting it) and this award:

yes, I am very moved by the whole thing... I guess you take a lot for granted working all these years for the same "organization"....many folks become like family...

the third award was from the Director of GSA Fleet...

    It moved me.........

The gentleman that hired me in 1975 was there.. the superivisor that appointed me in charge of the Federal Tire Qualifcation Program in 1984....saying i was the one to do it... presented me with this.. and its friggin awesome.. some of you old timers will get a kick out of it.. back then... we had to throw a good bluff on the tire industry... and much of our work was 'matchbook'... well... he contacted the industry and came up with collection.. for our 'matchbook bluff' worked wonders back then... I will cherish this forever..

anyway..wanted to share a very important day in my life my friends here... I am truly humbled.

Enjoy your new career of doing nothing. I hope some day I can retire.

BTW I like the match books. That is cool! You might have to explain what matches are to some of the younger ones here.

That's awesome. I hope I have a career full of people who appreciate what I've done. Just like those who clearly enjoyed working with you.

Congratulations on your awards! I'll propbably end up spend my career in the gvt as well as I have 8+ years in now. It really is hard to imagine 38 years with the same employer especially in this time and age. You stuck through to the end. And best of all, your under the CSRS retirement plan unlike the rest of us after '82 who are under FERS so your pension should allow you to keep active in WRR and a new toy every few years . Major congrats!

Congratulations, Ken- I am sure you have earned it- and it is nice that you worked with such good people who appreciated you and your efforts, and took the time to express their gratitude-

I am at 27 years state service, don't know if I will last another 11 years- my son is finishing 9th grade, and his college plans will affect my retirement date- besides, why would I leave? I get paid to annoy people, something I apparently am very good at- ;^)

Enjoy, and keep your pack growing-
