Rough month so far.....

a few weeks ago i found out my mother father(the only grandfather i have/know) has cancer, dont know how bad it is but i guess its treatable but only through radiation. then yesterday on my moms birthday, we find out my golden retriever Rex has cancer on his spleen, and its gonna cost $2,000 to do a ultra-sound to determine whether he has 3 months or a year. Rex is 13, i grew up with this dog, its hard to think he might be around much longer or my grandfather for that matter, my dads parents passed away before i was born(both father and mother to cancer)

I feel for you. I lost Ace last month. He ended up having cancer of the spleen, liver and it had spread to the heart. He gave no symptoms in the final weeks save him licking his paws (I had no clue what it meant - just I thought it was arthritis) . We used simple abdominal X-rays to make the diagnosis. but all this happended within only 2 days so at least it was quick. Money just doesn't grow on trees (I've tried as a kid) but you don't want your dog to suffer as well. Extremely tough decision

Just do everything you can to keep your dog comfortable and hope for the best with your grandfather. Even in the past five years, so much technology has helped cancer patients through what was never possible before.

In March of this year my Mom was diagnosed with colon cancer. Stage 4, it had moved and she had a mass on her liver as well. So far she has been lucky. They were able to resect her colon and she only had the one mass on her liver which they were able to remove 100%. There were no signs of invasion to surrounding tissues and all of her lymph nodes were clear as well.
She is doing chemo, in fact she started her 1st treatment last Monday. I saw her this weekend and she is doing great.

I know it's tough when someone you love (human or animal) is sick and you have absolutely no control over the situation. Just have faith that things will work out, lean on your friends when you need to and above all else enjoy NOW.
