Did any of the old timers on this board purchase the New Camaro?
    …how about the new guys?

The car is exactly what I wanted in '03-'04, but I am not all that interested now. I found it odd that I haven't seen much of it on this site.

Nope. I was luke warm to the body style, but did like the 426 hp under the hood.

What really hurt it for me was the overall bulk of the car. I bounced around the idea of selling my 96, in favor of a 11 SS. But, when I started calculating gains, there wasn't enough for me to want to spend nearly $40K. Sure, it's more powerful than the 350+ hp my current modified LT1 is putting out, but it weighs hundreds of pounds more. And, with all of the modifications I've done to my suspension, I'm very confident I can out handle the new SS in the twisties.

Overall, the new Camaro just doesn't warrant an "upgrade" for me. Perhaps, when the ZL1 arrives - I may change my mind. But, if it's going to cost $50K and weigh 4200 lbs, forget it. The real bargain out there now is the Boss 302 Mustang. Even better, a GT with the Ford Racing, dealer installed supercharger, fully backed by a 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty. You'll have a legit 500 hp car, for less than $40K - installed!

Took the words out of my mouth...

I was excited about the then new Camaro...until I sat in it. I'd buy a used a Z06...and the 5.0 Mustangs are bada$$.

My thoughts exactly, Chevy had a very nice vert on display at their tent at the 500 this year. It sure was pretty. We are considering a year or two until we can pick up one gently used.

I still love my 2000 Camaro and generally consider the 4th gen cars better looking than the 5th gen cars.

But if I was going to consider a new "pony car" my first choice would be a Dodge Challenger SRT8, followed by the Mustang, and then the Camaro. Don't get me wrong I like the new Camaro but I just like the other cars a bit better. Now if the (soon to be offered) ZL1 Camaro was available, then it would be a tossup between that and the SRT8 .

I think the new Camaro is a good looking and powerful car on its own. I don't really consider it a retro look though. No room in the back(still) and the trunk opening is too small. I purchased a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T w/6spd new for $30K. I can (and have) put 3 people (adult size) in the back(2-3hrs for 3ppl and 4hrs for 2ppl before stopping), the trunk and the opening are large. Yes, it is big and heavy, BUT if you have kids, it is the most practical car for the money in its class. Running at 70mph on road trips, I can average between 24-26mpg. I also have a lifetime powertrain warranty as long as I am the original owner.

I still have my 2000 Trans Am WS6 conv. and 1998 Trans Am WS6. These cars are my real passion! You can talk all day about quarter mile times, twistie runs, and top speed. All that stuff is just a matter of how much money you want to throw at it. At the end of the day, the car that earns its keep is my Challenger. I can justify keeping it if things go south and I have to start selling my toys. Just my 2 cents.

I absolutely love the Challenger. At some point, I will get an SRT-8 used. However, I am going to wait until about the 60% depreciation mark before I get serious about it. I have no desire to race anymore; I just love the way they look, sound, and ride!

Ford did some wonderful things with the Mustang...the '05+ Mustangs were the first of that car that I actually liked and would drive.

I think part of the interest problem is price. I picked up my '97 in April of that year for $24,000 when I was single without kids...not a big deal. The SS is just way too expensive for a car that will be worth $5,000 in 10 years. I sure like the ZL1, but I am sure the cost will be completely outrageous.

I drove one, it was ho-hum. Interior is kiddy-like, I like the exterior quite a bit. It's too heavy. I have 2 better cars already. No, I'm not considering buyin one.

On the other hand, I'm glad they built it and I'm seeing a lot of them out there and it makes me feel good to see them going down the road. It's still a Camaro and a hot rod.

I like the new Camaros, and appreciate that GM is building them. They really aren't pony cars any more, cheap with large motors. They are a more complete, and more expensive car. Good quality suspension, quiet, but sort of heavy for a sporty car. Not much of a performance upgrade from where I already at- If I was going to spend that amount of money, I would probably have to go with the 'vette, also.

Funny thing- I was trying out a used Charger my dealer buddy had, hemi, real back seat and trunk. I showed it to the bride, I sort of liked how it handled, but she wasn't willing to trade the Camaro for it. Much more refined vehicle, nice suspension, good power- But the old LS1 Camaro still sings a great song when you cut it loose. I have been driving it for over 5 years, and I am not bored with it yet. That says something.
