  • Ken or anyone - tire question

What do you think of the Nitto Terra Grapplers for D/E load range? also, what do you think of the General Grabber HTS in the same load range? reason for asking is that my 06 2500HD silverado currently has 245/75R16 4ply. i wish i caught this before i left off the lot 6 months ago. im looking to up the size to fill the wheel wells a little bit and attempt to improve the MPG with the 4.10s. any input would help

I'd avoid the Nitto's.. the Generals are fine though. Remember though, going to a load range D or E...run the O.E. pressure on the door placard, dont bump tire pressure even though max pressure goes way up on the higher load ranges... if you do, it will reduce your contact patch significantly and ride will be rough at heck, not to mention traction will be compromised.

yea im gonna run that the OE says but i may jack up the rears by ten when i move south as ill be towing a car trailer with a wrangler on it and my bed loaded down with stuff. im also wondering about the Transforce tires(either AT or HT) and the Hankook DynaPro ATM RH10s, i think ill either end up with generals or firestones(if they are like the old steeltex)

when you get them, if you give me the exact size and load range, i will tell you what the load carrying capacity is at the different psi ranges. i still have updated tire and rim book.

the industry does not go by plys anymore.. they go be the lettered load range. even though a tire might state 4 plys.. it could be a load range d...manufactures have advanced technology to achieve higher load ranges with less plys.
If that truck had C load range, or p metric tires, i'd be surprised... thats not enough tire for that truck. 3/4 ton trucks come with at least D O.E. can you give me the curb weight of the truck. not being at work at i dont have access to that info any more.

Yes, I would be interested in any info you have. Need new sneakers for my '02 Tahoe, with the Z71 package. Stock size is 245/75-16, thinking about going a little larger, but don't want to give up what decent handling it has now. Friend went all the way to 285/75-16's on his Tahoe, looks pretty mean- taller and wider, no doubt better for serious off-road, something he needs.

In truth, 95% of my driving is highway, but I do like to check out the occasional fire road or trail to the fishing hole. And it snows where I live, so that is important. Lots of choices, I was looking at a "D" or "E" rated tire, need new ones before the snow really flies.

Ken- sry it took so long but yes the truck did come with Ds OE, but the last owner musta planned on trading it in when it came time for new shoes, so he threw P metric tires on. im not keeping this truck much longer, i dont need something this big down here, especially when im not towing anything.
