As I have found a new beater

My 1978 Pontiac Grand LeMans, v-6 231ci 185hp/185tq (one of the most powerful car that year (most was 225)- v-8's only made 15 more hp than her v-6) will eventually be retired and put up for sale. My grandmother bought it brand new with 24 miles on it, in Ventura Ca. In 1986 my father bought it from my grandmother and was passed down to me on my 18th birthday on Jan 9th 1993. In the summer of 1990, I learned to drive on this car with the help of my brave Dad and to the dismay of California drivers everywhere, She has been to the tops of many high Mountains, traveled across country to Florida, where I drover her 750 miles a week traveling to a from College. Upon my acceptance to work at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, she successfully and safely allowed me to travel to her final destination of Middletown, Rhode Island.
Over the years she has seen the indignity of my brother backing out and denting in the drivers door, to a branch manager apexing an s-turn into my parking lot and taking out the passenger grillwork, BUT she has trudged along almost never complaining only when there was something wrong that needed attention. Her original-still-in-use engine, has never been rebuilt, has survived head-gaskets blowing twice, been through 2 A-4 transmissions, and her 2bbl carburetor needed care once every decade or so. Despite living in the rust belt, she has no body rot, but her powder blue lead paint (1978 was the last year for lead paint in cars) is showing its age. He interior is gone as a result of 26 years ungaraged and living in an intense sun environments. My life has revolved around this car since I was 15 1/2 years old. Despite her raggedy appearance, I drive her with pride, the older guards love her as they all had cars like her and she brings back so Many Memories. My dog Ace, loves taking rides in her, and can tell I am driving her within a ½ mile radius of him, despite no sound to hear, a sort of 6th-sense. I love this car very dearly, when others may take double takes to try and figure how can she be on the road (she passes all safety tests, and even passed emissions when she is emissions exempt)
My time with her is coming to and end as I hope to sell her to someone who has the time, care and resources to breathe new life in her. She is a car that has room for ANY size engine and is one of the only 78 Grand LeMans left on the road in the entire USA. Her body was proudly built by the worker at the Fisher Plant, so I know to whomever she ends up with will be blessed with a body in remarkable shape for her age and continuous daily-driving use through all climates, and 3 generations of my family as a 26-year-veteran as a daily driver.

    The car is titled ...

I know she need work, and time and care I cannot give her, so $500 to the first taker

She is being replaced by a 1994 Chevrolet Celebrity I will be picking up Wednesday. It is white, with burgundy interior and only 60,000 original miles. This car in excellent condition. The owner is a little old lady (whom I met with yesterday) suffering from Multiple Sclerosis and can no longer drive her, but would like to use the money from the sale to convert her van to hand controls so she can have a near normal live again. The only immediate work that needs to be done is front brakes and a new catalytic converter. The sale of the Grand LeMans will pay for these repairs.

Since I have not even been able to sell the car for a year, even for only $200.00 I donated her to the National Vehicle Donation Program with all proceeds to be given to the American Red Cross of Rhode Island, Providence Chapter. I get to write off the profits as a donation End the end she'll do some good.

They will pick her up Saturday after 9am .

Nice work. Sorry you couldn't sell it. It's tough parting with a car that's been with you for so long.

They picked up the car Saturday morning. 2 minutes after it was flatbedded off, I left my garden hose I clean the hawk with in the trunk . The tower, contracted to get the car, was in awe in how mechanically good the car is.

I'll post some pics when I get the film developed.
