  • Need to buy gears today...

I have decided with the advice of the installer to not get the richmond gear, so now my challenge is to find another gear man. that makes the 3.73 for a 2 series carrier.

Is this gear available from strange?

So you guys have an opinion as to a good website to buy them? I am trying to avoid summit since I live in OH and will have to pay sales tax.

Also, I have heard there is a better part to replace the crush sleeve but I forget what it is called. How much is it and can I get it in the install kit or is it extra?

    Thanks!

The solid spacer replacement for the crush sleeve is made by "Ratech".

Did you check with the popular F-Body specialists - T. Byrne Motorsports, Thunder Racing, etc.? None of those are in Ohio.

Not sure but I thought Richmond was the only one to make those gears for the 2 series carrier?

for the benefit of others who are looking for these gears strange does make them and if you go to Thunder Racing they have the solid spacer as well. However, the guy over the phone told me that it is not all that important for A4's. It's more needed for high RPM drops in manual trannys.

Thanks for the direction Fred, can't wait to get these puppys installed!

I purchased similar gears last year from Thunder Racing, they were Strange Series 2 3.42's however I believe they were also offered in 3.73's.

They had a package at the time which included the T/A rear diff cover, gears, and install kit (to rebuild the rear). It was a good deal at the time. I'd definitely suggest taking a peek over there.

              Buy direct from strange!!

Guys, I called around all morning and everyone was out of stock. Summit was asking 250 and thunder racing was asking 229.00. I went direct through strange and the gears were only 184! I called back thunder to get the install kit since it wasn't offered by the rep from Strange.

I basically got the basic install kit for free because of the massive price difference.

The rep told me that the Summit's of the world don't get any break on the gears that's why the prices are so high. They are trying to make money of course!

              Just an FYI

Strange gets their gears from US Gear. The boxes are marked "US/Strange".... at least my Strange Pro-Street 4.11's are.

There is something wrong with buying strange gears. I want normal ones.

200!?!? I'll make a trip down to ohio to see this guy, I'm looking at over $700 parts and labor to have my gears installed. 350 for install, 250 for gears, then cost of speedo calibration.

Is this a shop that does it for a flat rate of 200?

The guy doing it for me is my friends dad. He raced and won the "fastest street car in Ohio" competition with a car he completely built on his own. His garage looks like the one on "two guys garage."

                          Anyway, he knows his S*#t.

However, I think 200 bucks is his "friends" price for gears. I think he does that price for anyone who sends a buddy his way.

                          How far do you live?

BTW, he told me not to get the Richmonds. He said he can install any other gear with absolutely no noise, but the richmonds still come out noisy a lot of times. He didn't say they broke any more often, just were noisy. He said he has had great luck with the Stranges'.

                            BTW..... to loud LT1.

I already have the Borla cat-back system, so aside from headers (next planned mod) my exhaust is shaping up nicely.
