Well are you speaking of the original ZL1 project in the 60’s or the newer fourth-gen “ZL1” Camaros.

Im not to sure about the newer ones Pontiac counter part, but I do know some about the 60’s ZL1 Pontiac counter. Around 1969 Pontiac came out with the Ram Air V (5). Even though it was only 400 Cubic inch, it was a completely different block than the traditional Pontiac and made huge numbers. Although it was never sold in a car from a dealer, Royal Pontiac had a few that went high 11s with Slicks and gears in 1969 GTOs. It was almost the same motor that was installed in the Trans Am racing series Firebirds, except the birds Cubic Inch limit was set at 305 and the Ram Air motors had a shorter deck with a smaller stroke and bore to only net 303 Cubic Inches. Both motors are amazing. Look them up on Yahoo or Google

They did make one Firebird with a ZL1. It was just a prototype however. The complete story is here http://www.highperformancepontiac.co.../0312pon_bird/
