I think it is a good idea too. I think that state issued drivers licenses should be scrapped and replaced with a secure national ID card.

The ID cards should include: Name, Address, SS number, Felony history, driving history and a digital photograph of you. It would also list your privelages, like driving a car, motorcycle, fish & game licenses, etc.

The felony history is my idea. I think it would be good to know at an airport if someone travelling with 2 small children is a convived sex offender or something along those lines. Or, if you are pulled over by police they should have instant access to your basic criminal record so they know who they are dealing with.

If you are willing to commit a felony, you should have to live with it for life, even after you serve your time. The rest of us need to be able to protect our families from the potential of a felon "repeat offending".

How would anyone prevent these electronic ID cards from being hacked or re-written? It would seem impossible to prevent.

My local library (Montville, NJ) REQUIRES a driver's liscense to get a library card! I don't quite see how being able to drive is required to borrow a book. I asked how children or high schoolers borrow books and was told they use their parents' card. Oh yeah...big eye roll there!!

A standardized national ID would help in a number of areas. One reason...ID'ing counterfits would be much easier. ID theft is getting to be a big problem and people need to know a person is who they claim to be. In addition I also think we need to separate driving priviledge from determining identity.

You don't have to drive to borrow a book. NJ Motor Vehicle Commission issues ID cards for non-drivers.

NJ has already implemented most of the requirements outlined in that article. They will not issue a drivers license or the above-mentioned ID card without "6 points of identification"..... you must show up with things like a birth certificate or US passport (4 points each), armed services identification, professional license, and/or numerous other documents that add up to 6 points.

The part I like.... and you can see who objects and why:
The American Civil Liberties Union likened the new rules to a "de facto national ID card," saying that the measure would force "states to deny driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants"
Isn't that a shame.... they won't issue ID cards to illegal aliens? Typical liberal whining...... That alone is enough to make me think its a good idea.

That's good the hear Fred! The librarian didn't seem to know anything about that.

The NJ law is good. It does tend to cause problems at times though. Marriage and the subsequent name change seems to throw the MVC guys a bit. You're supposed to be able to use the marriage certificate as proof of name change. But they still wouldn't let my wife use anything with her maiden name on it. We had to wait for an updated social security card and some other things first before she could meet the requisite number of points.

I would agree with all but the SS number, to easy for people to get info about you from that number, and people are still going to lose their ID.

Well, most of you are going to say “oh brother” when you read this. How about “Big Brother”?

If I didn’t see a correlation to this, and what it says in the Bible in Revelation, I wouldn‘t have any reservations. I have never been much of a Bible reader, but since September 11th, I began to see that the “Dooms Day Sayers” might be on to something.

Rev. 13:16-And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark…
Rev. 13:17-And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

I support Bush 100 %, and most everyone here in south Alabama, voted for him. I truly don’t believe that we would be any safer with another president at this point in time. I think that anything, (within reason), that would keep us and our families safe is a great idea, but I can’t escape the fact that events over the past 4 years have been looking a lot like the implication of things that it says in the Bible, that would happen in the “final days”. It even talks about Iraq in Revelation. It refers to Babylon, but that is were Babylon was- in Iraq.
                    Rev. 17:5
“And upon her forehead was a name written, (sorry for the caps, but this is the way that it is in the Bible) MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” (“MYSTERY”=WMD’s maybe?)

                    Rev. 18:2-3
                    2) “And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.”
                    3) “For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.” (Oil For Food scandal?)

                    Rev. 18:9-11,15,18
                    9) “And the kings of the earth ( France, Russia, Germany, China?) who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her (Oil For Food, etc.), shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,

                    10) “Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.”

                    11) “And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:”

                    15) “The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,” (France, Germany, Russia, China, etc.)

                    18) “And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city”

Now you will have to excuse anything that looks like a typo in the italicized words, because I copied it straight out of the King James version of the Bible, so those are someone else’s typos. Also, I hope that quoting the Bible doesn’t “offend” anyone out there. I am not trying to preach anything here, I just found something interesting that I thought others might find interesting as well.

Anyway, eventually, it will be required by law to have an embedded computer chip, or at least an electronic tag somewhere on the body, for every human being on the planet, and we will all be tied into one huge data base, all connected through cyberspace-or if you will, the “Beast”. You will not be able to buy, or sell, or fly, or drive, or even check out library books without this chip. It is already in use in this country, because it has been approved by the FDA. Never happen-you say? Well, lets look at the Mexican border situation. According to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, just last week, there are 1,000,000 illegals coming across the border each month! That is what he said! In an interview with Judiciary Chairman, Republican Congressman James Sensenbrenner, President Bush refuses any additional funds for border control. There are 2 huge holes in the fence on the border, in San Diego, that the government refuses to fix. San Diego county officials have sent a letter to the federal border patrol agents, telling them to keep out of that area. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out, that in the not too distant future, the word is going to go out, that any illegals that are caught in this country, will have this RFID electronic tag, computer chip, embedded into them before they are sent back to wherever they came from. If and when they try to come back in to the country, they will be picked up on the “technology” that you keep hearing about that they are implementing at the border. This technology is nothing more than powerful scanners, similar to the ones that are at the doors at WalMart, that set off an alarm if you are walking out with one of the many products that presently have the RFID electronic tags on them, that is not deactivated. Just the fear alone, of having one of these chips injected against their will, is going to be a huge deterrent for most potential illegals. I think that they are already using these imbedded computer chips in the military for military personnel and prisoners. They are already pushing to get regular prisoners in this country “tagged”, with these inject able chips. This idea has been around for a while, but it has had to wait for the all of the technology to come together for it to happen. Also, the right world wide conditions have had to be there for it to begin to really take off. It is slowly progressing to the embedded computer chip, to be required by law. All it would take is for a nuclear explosion to take place, somewhere in the world, by terrorists, or terrorist supporters.

Now all of this doesn’t mean that Bush is an “Anti-Christ” or the Anti-Christ. He is just doing what he is lead to do, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Things are going to happen the way that they are going to happen, regardless.

Ok this is the part I was refering to when I asked if it bothered anyone else. The religous part I do not agree with as it states in the bible the anti-christ will be a person with such charisma that countries will hand over leadership to him (paraphrased). I highly doubt many countries are going to give bush control willingly. The bible also states there will be a world governing body, and I think we are a ways off from that yet. I live in Canada so its not exactly a law that will be implemented on me anytime soon. I was just wondering how people in the USA felt about being "tagged". Its only a hop skip and ajump to embeded chips, once the system is up and running. I know I wouldnt be up on having the government tracking every single move I make day in and day out, where im at what im buying and where I go, and for how long. I have nothing to hide, but I wouldnt be happy with an ID tag in my A*$ cheek
