  • Compression test q's

Got the formula down for plugs, stage8 locking header bolts, and earl's pressure master gasket for headers, power steering pump, and opti check.

What is the best way to do the compression check. I got a good gauge, and want to make sure everything is good before I put the nitrous back in this spring.

Can the compression check be done on a cold engine? I don't want to burn my hands on hot headers.

Also, can it be done with the headers removed?

    According to the Helm:
    1) run engine until it reaches normal op temp. Battery must be at full charge.
    2) turn engine off
    3) two-wire terminal connector from distributor
    4) spark plugs from all cylinders
    5) air duct or cleaner from throttle body
5a) block throttle plate in open position

    6) install compression gage into plug hole
    7) have a helper crank the engine through at least 4 compression strokes in the cylinder being tested, and check the readings on the gage at each stroke. Record the results.
