  • Best Throttle Body for the Money?

I have been looking into getting a throttle body for a while now. I have been looking at AS&M 54 and 58mm at around 500, and Holley 52 & 58mm for around 350.
Now to me the Holley looks better visually
but i was very happy with Mid lengths i got from AS&M (other then the ceramic coating, and bolt clearance) so the throttle body has to be great too?
porting the intake is not problem it's coming off to reseal anyways
and it there a loss of power going with a 58mm on a basically stock car, don't wanna buy twice when doing motor upgrade. I heard you just lose low end but pick it back up at high RPM's
    I LOVE COBRA'S -
    THEY TASTE LIKE CHICKEN!

being that i dont have a throttle body i dont have too much insight....but....i have heard that a 58mm TB is a huge overkill for a pretty much stock or bolt on LT1. From what i've heard, you actually lose power. If it were up to me, I'd go with a 52mm TB.

      Just my $.02

You're right...58 mm is overkill unless you're making 700 horsepower. Fred has the exact numbers of usage percentage for his setup.

At the 500HP level, my 381 stroker got all the air it needed at about 77% open on the 58mm Holley TB. Opening the blades farther did not increase air flow significantly. If you work the numbers, you can see that a 52mm at 100% open would have been able to supply the required air. That's based on extensive tuning on an engine dyno.

I also recall a chassis dyno someone posted on Project TransAM that showed a 10HP loss putting a 58mm TB on a basically stock LT1.

If you have your heart set on a 58mm, the Lingenfelter/Accel unit is the best available. Unfortunatley is costs $600.

The 58mm TB can also play havoc with the A4 tranny shifting, possibly causing excessive line pressure and tranny damage. I'm not an expert in auto trannies, so I'm not sure why this happens.
