BTW, the Borla sounds fantastic on LT1 cars. I think it's well documented that many people just do not like the sound of the LS1, because of that don't judge based on how they sounded on an LS1. Instead find a sound clip of a Borla on an LT1.

I would use my video phone but I'm not sure that it will provide good enough sound quality.
I used to have the borla on a different LT1 car. I know exactly what it sounds like, but thanks for the suggestions. The prices keep getting better!! Thanks a ton guys.

Tracy, sorry it took so long to post these, I saw the post yesterday, didn't get around to it until now.

I loves. Catback install is easy. As you can see, I did it in the street. Ramps, angle grinder, and an extension cord. Standard socket set as well. Install takes about an hour.

      Ain't those tips pretty?

Which Borla system do you have? There are two.

The adjustable catback system that has a changable plate in it to adjust for loudness and flow

              -or-

The muffler back system, which uses the factory I-pipe and is not adjustable

Maybe because our cars are older the price is actually going up due to the fact that they may not be producing as many????

CBR Mike, I did not mean to say that LS1's don't sound good with Borla's on them. Just saying that lots of people have commented that you really need to find the right exhuast for the car, as opposed to the LT1 which seems to have more than a few really good sounding exhausts.

Tracy, I'm gonna have to go ahead and tell you that you NEED headers on a 383 build. You are going to be totally choking that motor with stock manifolds... on a stock motor, stock cubes, with a stock cam... headers free up about 25 rwhp or 35 crank HP. Can you imagine how much restriction the manifolds are going to cause a larger cube motor with a more aggressive cam and heads??? We're talking major losses here...

I don't question that you've done your homework here, but I really urge you to consider it again. Why spend all that money and then have restrictive iron manifolds cutting your gains in half? I know you want a "best of both worlds" kind of thing here... but I dunno... something's gotta give.

I agree. If you're concerned with sound, go with a set of shorties and a standard cat, not a high-flow one. You'll still get better flow and more hp but it won't be that much louder. But, since you're going with Borla and the elec. cutout (which is pretty trick ), go all out. Nice set of shorties, like the SLP coated ones, and a good high-flow cat and leave the pass. side closed when the family is in, open when not. That'll give you the best of both worlds.

I didnt realize that headers were a 35 flywheel HP item on a stock car. If that is true, they would likey be a ~60 HP item on a 383 build. I can't justify that kinda loss to keep the manifolds.

I'll have to look into some headers. I'd prefer some shortys. I was already planning on upgrading the y-pipe.

How about someting with a black finish that won't corrode?

So, if my stock configuration makes 275, can I expect it to make 300 with the ramair and borla?

is it unrealistic to expect the 383 with manifolds to make 425? What about with shorty headers?

The Magnaflow catback does sound very good on the LT1's. How loud it will be will depend on whether or not you install headers, and whether or not you keep the cats. The Magnaflow also has a lifetime warranty. Something no other current muffler company will do.

With a 383, you will definitely want to go with LT header. Actually Tracy, it seems like you are more of a 396 kind of guy. I think you would like the broader and increased torque curve of the 396 better based on what I've gathered from your driving characteristics. Same cylinder bore just a 3.875" stroke as opposed the 3.75" stroke of the 383.

Parts for the 396 are more expensive. From what I understand I wouldnt be able to use my PM connecting rods, or oil pan. I havent had any luck getting a 396 build to make sense. The cranks are harder to find too. If you can show me a reasonably priced 3.875" crank that will make a 396 with my stock PM connecting rods and oil pan, I'll really have to consider it.

I was going to use a new 3.75" cast crank from Eagle that is rated to 500 hp. It balances the same as a stock LT1 crank, too.
