  • Rims and Tires

Hey guys i am getting new rims for my TA, i was going to go with 18x9.5's but what i was wondering is sometimes i see people go with 17's in the front and 18's in the back. Is there a reason for this, is this a better idea than 18's all around. Also has anyone had any experiences with Toyo tires?
    Thanks

The people I have seen with 17/18 combo's are usually running vette wheels, which typically come in 17/18 combos. The problem with running different size wheels is that you can't rotate your tires. I prefer all of my wheels to be the same size...but that's just me

I would go with the same size all around, but if you goto directional tires, you are limited in rotaion anyways.

with directional, its still front to rear, same side... same as non directional.. i dont recommend crossing high perf. radials from side to side on rotation...

        go with 18's all around...

what side are you going with, the 285/40R18 ?...but that will raise you an inch...the 285/35 will drop you .5"..... they both call for a design rim width of 10" but you can get away with a 9.5" width rim.

I would say go with 18's all around. But I dont think it matters if you do 17/18 because noramally you have a high performace tire on the back and a not-so-high-performace tire on the front so you wouldn't rotate them anyway. Its not like your going to buy Nitto NT555's or BFG KD's for the front. Atleast I wouldnt. I think I explained that clearly??

Didnt realize it was a no no to cross rotate bi-directional tires. Someone better tell my local tire shop. I have directionals so its no problem for me but I have seen them do it many times!

thats fine, but your tire is designed to fit an 8.5" rim... a 9.5" rim will spread the working components of the tire too much. he needs to go for 275's or 285's..

in the old days, its was a no no... today.. its not a no no anymore.. however... with high perf tires, which i have seen xrays of after being run only on one side to 50%... some changes do take place that, the tire manuf.s wont "admint to" but i would not swap sides with them.....keep em on the same side...
