  • shaker hood

when i bought my trans am, the dude who had it before me put a edelbrock perfromer high rise intake on the 400. so now the stock air cleaner will not fit under the hood, so my shaker is just sittin on top of the 6 inch air cleaner im using. does anyone have any ideas on how to attach the shaker to the hood.

You can use 3M black weatherstrip adheisive and literally "glue" is to the hood. Use the factory weatherstrip in place and apply the black adheaisive to the weatherstrip and attach to the hood. Follow the directions for drying time and use a little duct tape to hold it firmly in place until the stuff dries.

i was thinking that, but i thought the heat would be too much for the adhesive.

I really like your '77; I haven't thought about a high rise intake as mine is all stock. I would probably tack-weld bolts to the hood, make plastic spacers to the shaker, and bolt it in place. If you do it this way, you can still utilize the weather stripping around the shaker. Also, I would open, the shaker and set up a vent to your carb. I have one scoop that I opened completely for fun, and I am fitting the original with a butterfly and solenoid that they used in the early '70s.

Your car sounds like a LOT of fun. I love the built 400s; one of the best sounding motors out there. I am unsure what I am going to do. I was going to leave my '79 completely original, but I will never sell it so who cares. I just want to have the 6X heads decked to a 9.5 compression ratio, put in a cam with a little better lift, and roller rockers. I am also going to put dual pipes out the back with Flowmasters and long tubes. If I am ambitions, I will put a 125 shot of nitrous on it.
