  • NFB:Credit Card Fraud on Fri. Morning

This sucks. Just received a statement from one of my credit cards and there is a nice purchase on Sears.com in the amount of $529 . After few seconds of scratching my head I realized I made no such purchase. I immediately called the financial institution, they closed the account and they are issuing me a new card. The only time I remember using the card was through Paypal.
I guess am just a another statistic. Happy Friday to all.

It really sucks that there are people out there who have nothing better to do than try and screw up other people's lives. I'm sorry that happened to you. I hope all works out for you in the end.

        Good Luck

Chances are it was just that one card and you have nothing to worry about, but you may want to contact your other card issuers, either by phone or online, to see if they've been compromised too. Also pull your credit report to make sure no one has applied for any other credit in your name. Continue checking it about every 6 weeks or so for a few months, or file a fraud alert with each institution. It can take several months for credit activity to show up on reports. Hopefully it was just that one card that got compromised somehow. It should be fairly easy for the company, either sears or the credit card company, to track down who made the purchase and where it was sent.

          Good luck!

Thanks guys. The credidt card company has been cooperative so far, the colsed the account , changed the number and are issuing me a new number, and some paper work for me to fill out. I like DaveM said a going to check my other accounts for any recent activities.

That sucks. Pull up your credit card statements for that card. A few gas stations around here got busted for skimming. They slide your card through a different device, then slide it through the real credit card swipe.

American Express called me this morning at my office just to verify a purchase I made online. Isn't that strange? I like that kind of service.

We had a couple of charges on one our cards back in late 2003 from Turkey. One converted to like $85 dollars and another about $103. They were from the same electronics store. We have never even been to Turkey, so I'm not sure what happened. They closed the account and reissued us new cards and nothing else has ever happened. Hopefully it's just a mistake.

I've also had my Citibank an GM cards call to verify large purchases we had made.

                  Good Luck...

I believe that pretty much all credit cards now do not hold you responsible for fraudulent charges, at least beyond $50. What you should be most concerned about is anyone opening new credit in your name. You can probably contact the 3 credit bureaus and have them personally verify with you before releasing your credit information to any companies.

                    Good luck.

I once had that happen. $35.00 in Lira at some joint in Italy. I had never been to Italy, so I contested the iten and they removed it. I never got the account number changed, I figured maybe it was a data-entry error?
