  • NFB P-47 Strafing video

I'm a huge WWII freak, and this week marks the 60th anniversary of famous WWII battles (Iwo Jima). Check out the power of the most respected machines of our time,

    http://djtaso.com/videos/P47Strafing.WMV

My next door neighbor was in WWII. He was a navigator on a B-17 over Germany. They got shot down in '44 and became a POW until the Brits liberated their camp at the end of the war.

Perfect time for this thread. The reason I had my camera outside today to take that picture of the hawk was because a P38 lightning flew over the house. He was in a 80 degree right hand bank turning in to Dekalb Peachtree Airport. He didn't come back around so I didn't get a picture of it. I wonder why he was flying in. I might stroll by the airport tomorrow.

Cool. Lightnings are not very common. I have a t-shirt with a P38 on it.

      Neat video, too.

My dad is a Bataan Death March survivor and was a Japanese POW.

Although it wasn't a WWII plane, today I saw a Hornet playing around... Whenever I hear that distintive sound I always run out to see. It was very high. DJ thats a neat video. My grandpa was a tail gunner in WWII, can't remember what he flew in. Hat goes off to all Vets and Soldiers.

              Sentimental Journey

Every summer here in El Cajon, they have a CAF air show. Two years ago I had the opportunity to fly in "Sentimental Journey", a B-17. Taking off, I was in the bombadier seat (in the nose), it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. During the flight we rotated from position to postion inside the aircraft as we flew over downtown San Diego and back. It wasn't cheap, but was worth every penny. I have such respect for the veterans of WWII. If you guys get the chance to ever do it, do it.

That's an awesome video. I love WWII planes too.. Especially the Pacific theater planes.

I'm going flying tomorrow, but only in a Cessna.. I'd kill to fly a F6F. One of my dreams

My father-in-law flew F6s in WWII. He has some pictures on his wall of the one he flew.

I'm guessing it's because it's the 60th anniv., and I have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot more in the upcoming weeks. Those birds are very rare, especially in the air.

They have one for WWII vets at our city hall every year. Sadly, every year they get smaller and smaller.
