  • NFB: Went on a short trip today..

Went for a couple hour flight today with a member of Camaroz28.com. He floew there, and I flew back.. Lots of cool scenery on the way.

Went from Meriden, CT (KMMK) to Block Island (KBID) in RI. Got some hundred dollar chilli, and then went home.. Fairly uneventful flight, had two "fun" landings and called it a day. It was smooth sailing the whole way, but frickin COLD!!

I have some video too to put up, but I can't find my firewire cable.. I think I left it at a buddy's house. I'll have to get it tomorrow..

    HERE are the PICS

    video to come

Winter flying is fun. Watch out for ice on the runway!

My brother Adam and a friend of mine Ben are both pilots. One time we were going up to the Wisconsin Dells for some slot machine action at the indian casino. When Adam banked for turn onto the first leg of the approach we looked down and the runway was a mirror of ice. The weather report said "braking action nill". Ben was in the back seat, and he said there was no way he would even try it. Adam figured he would just fly over the runway and do a touch and go on the ice.

He ended up landing it. (C752) I could of crapped my pants. It was so slippery we had a hard time walking from the plane to the casino taxi. There was only one other plane at the airport, and they said they were going home, it was too way slippery for them.

As we gambled away our money at the casino, we were all nervous about how the takeoff would go. There was a slight crosswind. It ended up being no problem for Adam, men he's got guts.

yeah may people dont know it but i am also a pilot. I have my private (not what you think) , now im working on my instrument rating. Flying in vfr conditions is easy, i can wait until im shooting approaches at ifr minimuns, throw in a little cross winds and some wake turbulence . God i love flying. Havent been able to do it lately because im broke

Sorry officer, im not speeding... Im qualifying

Ken, I cheked out the homepage of your dad.. To say I'm jealous is an understatement!! That's some cool chit!

            On with the VIDEO!

Here is the video as promised.. If at work, you may want to keep the volume low as one song has a few swears in it

There are two videos, one lower res, and one higher res. I'm still learning on the rendering. Trying to find the best format. The video I have is awesome resolution MPEG, but is 550Mb. These are WMV's and quite a bit smaller

            Low Res - 26mb - http://www.cousinlarry.com/videos/flight.wmv
            High Res - 51mb - http://www.cousinlarry.com/videos/flighthighres.wmv

Did it not want to come down during the first approach to block island? I know the 172 can be that way, and next thing you know the airport is behind you.

Tom Petty - Learning To Fly
Ozzy Osbourne - Flying High Again (even though that was not what he was referring too)
                Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away

Landing attempt one looked like a dive bomb attempt at the runway.
Landing at home was rather "interesting" too.

Thanks for the song suggestions! I couldn't think of good songs at all last night when I was making the vid.. Oh well..

The first two landings (one landing?) was my buddy, the last one was me. In my defense - it's been 3 years since I've flown a Cessna, and I've never flown from the right seat.. I was all messed up

Put me in a Warrior, and I would of greased it! hahaa

Yeah, it just floated.. It was 19°, wind straight down the runway, and the C172 had a STOL kit on it.. The thing jsut floated..

Oh, ok. I was wondering about that last one cause it was pretty far right of the center line. I've never done a right seat landing either, so that would be sketchy on my first time too.

Let me know if you need any of them.

Some day I would like to do it. I've been up in a Pitts S2B. I wouldn't have wanted to land it though. I'd have probably ground looped. If you come down to Atlanta you could land at my friends airport. Yes he owns an airport. If you could call it that. It's a 1200 foot grass strip that Ts into a 2200 grass strip. There is a covered awning there with an old Beachcraft in it.

I'd didn't know there where so many pilots here! My brother owns a Beechcraft Musketeer. Its like a Piper Cherokee only with a 160 HP engine and a bit wider.
I'm a student pilot myself and am gaining hours.

man that first landing must have been tough with that head wind. It would have been cool if you would have slipped it on the approach. Slipping always has freaked me out cause you kinda come in sideways
Also were you guys in Class Delta airspace or did you go through any charlie or bravo airspace.
