  • LT1 to LS1 brake upgrade. What hoses to use? mods required?

Gents....I just finished acquiring all my parts for the 98+ brake upgrade...I have new spindles...BRAND new calipers. (Ebay)...and all hardware. From what i've seen and read...I'm not sure what to do for brake hoses / lines.

What do i need to complete this upgrade? Do i need 98+ style lines or will my existing ones work? I plan to purchase Stainless lines...but not sure what style to get.

    Any insight will be welcome.
    Thanks
    Jason.

I could not find any auto parts store that carried a brake hose for the 98-02 F-body. You could either go to the dealer or get the stainless line kit. I got mine from Year one. http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/p...G&hid=G19AB958 but I got the last kit they had.
    Stealth has them

Since you are in Canada, here is your place. They are in Canada too. I have bought from them before.

Your existing hoses will not work. They are too short.

Oh do you have caliper brackets? The LT1 ones will not work either.

Will they just "Fit up" perfectly? >>

Jeff, will the 98+ lines just bolt right up to the existing "hard" lines? or is there any modification required with regards to "hard" line routing etc?

      Thanks
      Jason.

        yes and no.
The metal brake line has the correct fitting on it so it bolts together fine. The bracket mounted to the car that secures the line is the problem. Mine the hole in it was funky shaped keyed to the hose. The 98-02 hose was hex shaped and would not go into the hole. I took a little tool and routed it out so I could get the 98-02 line in it. After that is when I figured out that I had two left front hoses and no right front hoses. So I went and got the Earls lines and they don't use the metal clip to hold the line on to the bracket. The Earls are threaded with a nut on the end and I think they would have fit fine without having to route the metal bracket out.

I'm not sure if you saw my other question or not because I was editing while you were posting. Did you get the 98-02 brake caliper mount? The 93-97 will not work. Look at this picture. The LT1 is on the left and the LS1 is on the right.

          Yes...all new caliper mounts.

          Thanks Jeff for the info.

Yes, I have the 98+ caliper mounts (spindles). Got them from a 2002 wrecked T/A. They didn't even have brake dust on them!

I am re-using my original hubs...other than that...all is new.

So, i guess i just need to buy some 98+ Earls stainless steel brake lines...and I'm good to go.

          Thanks again.

            Sounds good.

I don't know if the earls lines will fit the LT1 rear end. I can look when I get home. I still have the old axle.

              Rear end lines...

Yeah, i'm not sure about doing the rear lines at this point...i guess i'll have them...so when i convert to LS1 brakes in the rear...it will be one less thing to buy.

I would upgrade to the 98+ rears...solely for an e-brake that will hold my car on a boat ramp with the Seadoo attached! Current "clamp disk" style ones suck...prefer the 98+ mini-drum style.

              Thanks
              Jason.

I didn't know the rears were different in their design like that. The emergency brake mounting on the LS1 cars are different than the LT1 cars. I had to bend one of the brackets to install my bolt on control arm relocation bracket.
