  • NFB: Very intense emotional and spiritual thing happened to me the other night

I've always been pretty skeptical about supernatural things... ghosts, spirits, etc... any person who has ever claimed to have experienced one is always some whacky redneck who has also had numerous UFO sightings under his belt... but what happened to me Saturday night changed my outlook on things quite a bit...

Most of you know that my dad died when I was 19... that's about 3 1/2 years ago now. It's amazing how time flies...

Anyway... except for the first couple weeks after coping with his death, I've never tried to talk to him or "contact" him in anyway... and even then, I wasn't really "trying to", it just made me fell better to not give up the use of the word "Dad" in a directive way.

So anyway, on with the story...

In the dead middle of the night Saturday night, I woke up from my sleep. I was laying on my side facing the window of my room, which is opposite of the door. All of a sudden, the door opened. And I froze. I could NOT move. I kept thinking to myself, "WAKE UP Jay... this is a dream. WAKE UP." The harder and harder I tried to move, the more paralyzed I became. The footsteps started walking towards the bed, and I closed my eyes because I wanted to pretend to be asleep. Pretty soon, the fright inside me was gone, and I had a very peaceful feeling. I wasn't breathing heavily, my heart wasn't racing... I was calm. As the figure got closer and closer to my bed, the more and more peaceful I felt. Whoever was in my room had a flashlight. I can vividly remember the light shining through my eyelids. Even though I wasn't scared at all at this point, I was still fighting to move, trying desperately to open my eyes and see who was there. After a few brief minutes, the person walked back towards the door, and then the door closed. The moment the door closed, my body released its stiffness and I could move again. My heart began to race like the 25th mile of a marathon and I was left in a dizzying state of mind trying to figure out what I just experienced...

It was without a doubt the most real, intense, and emotional experience that maybe I have ever had. I don't know how to explain it...

I'm not even going to say that it was my dad in the room, but I know what happened was real. There's some things in this world that we just can't explain, and I'm glad for that... when you stop trying to explain everything, you can take a lot more on faith.

You probably had one of those dreams that felt so real. I get those once or twice a year, they're very rare for me. When ever I do have them, I would remember them for days and days and play it back in my head.

I've had those before... one involved Pamela Anderson, and.. well... uhh... that's for another message board.

Anyway... what I experienced Saturday night was on a completely different level. It blew any "real dream" that I've ever had completely away.

Argh!, I had one of those last week that involved my girlfriend cheating on me. I woke up angry enough to put my fist through a wall. I agree with Taso though. Lots of people have them. It seems you were very close with your father so that would just magnify the sense of realism. If you feel that what you experienced was real then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Maybe it's because people have too much doubt in their hearts. I would fall into that catagory. Either way, seems that you're glad you experienced it and i think that's awesome, good for you man!

Well, I had this dream where like 3 girl....wrong forum. Jk...
Thats a really cool experince that happened. Although I can't relate to your past (as far as your father goes) but i too have had a few really strange experiences with waking up whether it be a dream or not. I like to believe in supernatural "beings" so as far as I'm concerned it could have been your father. We weren't there so believe whatever you feel. Very cool thread and experience though.

I've wokin up to "urbs" floating around... prolly was my imagination or the beer, but I like to think I have seen some starnge things.

I had the same thing happen to me a little over a year ago. I had just woke up from being passed out on my couch infront of my tv in the summer. It was 2 am and I went up and got some oj so I know I was not dreaming.

I changed the channel and laid back down on the couch. I looked out my window, I could see my reflection up to my forehead, and nothing after that.
Now it gets crazy, I froze starring at the window and started to hear something that related to the sound of a jet car powering up.....well I don't live near an airport and I don't own a jet car. The difference with our "encounters" is that I had a very hostile feeling and the more I tried to move and the more angry I got the louder the sound got. I could feel my face trying to cringe from the sound,
Then it went away, I could move again, and my heart was beating like an animal, and I got the strange feeling, all cold and every hair on my neck stood up.
I sat up quick and grabbed my oj, still cold, condensation on the glass, only about 10 min after I sat back down on the couch.

Well, I’m glad that I’m not the only person on this forum with strange and paranormal experiences. Sometimes I really want to post something that I have experienced, but I haven‘t so far. I literally could write a book on all of the things that I have experienced since the day I was almost electrocuted when I was about 9 years old. I also lost my father, back in Jan. of 1998. I have never had any experiences like what Jay describes, but I have had experiences that I find kind of strange, relating to my father. Twice since he died, one time being within the last 3 months, I have literally felt like I was him. I mean like all of a sudden, I would “feel” like I was him. I don’t know how to explain it other than that-I was like whoa, what the…. I don’t know whether its my imagination or not, but its very bazaar, and I have never had that experience other than those two times.

There is one experience that began back around 1986 or 87, that continues to this day, and happens almost every day, in some form or another. I thought that I was the only person in the world with this experience, until I was watching the Larry King Live show, and a woman called in from Canada, and spoke of having the same experience. I freaked out, and collected myself and went on to the internet, and then freaked out some more. I found that people all around the world have been having the same experience, which began about 20 to 25 years ago for most people. I won’t get into the details right now, but it is called “The 11:11 Experience”. You can find a good bit of information on the internet by just typing in 11:11 in to your browser. You will also find that there are several forums set up to discuss this phenomenon.

You have to remember that we are spiritual beings, and there are other spiritual beings that exist outside of our realm of existence. When you start thinking “outside the box”, you can realize that life in this universe is a lot more than the 9 to 5 world of human conventional wisdom.

Oh I know what it is, and I have definitely experienced that before as well... but that's why I know this was different.

Is it possible that I was asleep when the figure walked into the room? Totally, I won't deny that. But one thing I am completely sure of, is that I was wide awake when the door opened. Maybe my mom came in to check on me, and I fell back to sleep right as she cam in ... If I fell back asleep and the rest was in a dream state, that's completely possible...

...but the whole experience of it... whether real or in a dream state it doesn't matter... it was so intense that I know it had a purpose.

Its one of those "you would have had to have been there" kind of things isn't it?
Did you tell your mom about what happened?

Ranger Bob, the reason this experience was so different is because every other encounter with sleep paralysis I have ever had was a terribly unpleasant experience. In most cases, it involved either myslef or family member in great and immediate danger, and the sensation of an evil presence around me. I could never tell what exactly was going on, but I knew it was bad, and it was the scarriest experience of my life... I tried and tried as hard as I could to scream for help, but no sound came out of my mouth... I couldn't move, I coudn't fight, I couldn't get anyone's attention. It was terrible.

In addition to this latest experience being 10 times more vivid than any of those other sleep paralysis experiences, it was also accompanied by a calm, serene sensation. I was never afraid, and I never felt a presence of evil... in fact, it was just the opposite.

I really believe that a scientist's belief that all things on this earth can be explained through science alone is the height of arrogance. We have not scratched the surface of the complexity of the world in which we live... unless you believe that our lives are nothing more than the single most miraculous coincidence to ever occur -- a random collection of proteins and electrical impulses which somehow form a human being... I refuse to believe that... there would be no meaning for life whatsoever.

How do we define what's real? Does "real" have to be something you can see, touch, hear, or smell? Because if so... then things like happiness, love, and sadness are not real. They are nothing more than electrical impulses in our brains that trigger a biological response. Even if that door (to my bedroom) really never opened, and this whole thing was a hallucination... it was all electrical impulses in my brain that caused a biological response... I guess that puts it on the same level as love, happiness, and sadness...

While science can document that a phenomenon like sleep paralysis exists, can it really explain it? What is really going on in someone's mind when it is happening? We don't know, because we can never conversate with someone while they are going through it.

So what if that door never opened? In the state of mind I was in, it did. I experienced it happening... maybe the state known as "sleep paralysis" by science allows us to open our minds to a spiritual world that full consciousness simply rejects as impossible.

Let's bring this back to Ackem's (sp?) Razor... "when all explanations have been considered, the simplest one is usually correct." ...............

What's more likely? That hundreds, thousands, maybe even millions of people who have expereinced sleep paralysis; people that we would consider "sane", have all gone dillusional and hallucinated wild things that don't really exist in a state of mind that we can't communicate with them... or that these people really are experiencing something?

I have had several events like this

I tend to think of them as the edge of what we call consciousness and unconsciousness. I have had an an experience so real, it was like I was on the star trek enterprises' "hohdeck" at 4pm in the afternoon but I knew what it was, and very calm. The more I have them the more I understand them.

notice they happen right before or after you supossedly wake up!

then there is the same exact hyper-real conscious wake dream, just after I wake up, I have had over 20+ times of an super-evil presence (like a guy wearing a cloak so dark, with folds, within folds, it made the night look like bright sunshine) ... that one to this day I have had in mutiple states, and I still cannot explain

I tend to think of the sleep paralysis while your mind is awake to be rather boring... I have had so many

                            Weird jay.

I wake up cussing loudly in my sleep. Last time this happened.. It was my sister. I was in a big truck, like a semi. She was in the road. I had the brake to the floor and it wouldn't stop. I was yelling at the top of my lungs at the foot of my bed, pressing on my dresser, almost kicking it over (like the dresser was the brake). My parents both ran to my room and even after I woke up I was sweating and breathing heavy. Really weird. I always have dreams that she's in some kind of danger and I can't do anything to stop it. Crazy...

My dad had an experience like that with his brother that died. Almost identical to what you just described jay.

I was also going to post a link to Sleep Paralysis.. Other poster beat me to it.. Read up on that link, it decribes the sensations pretty acurately..

Interesting experience, though.. My mom said that she had a similar experience of seeing my grandma enter her bedroom. (She lived cross country, so her physically being there was not a possibility). Later that morning she got the call that she died.

I once had a dream that the _double redundant_ power backup system for the data center at my old work failed, and the computer room went dark. About a week later, the power went out, the UPS batteries went dead, and the backup generator that was supposed to pick up the load failed, so, ding-dong, dead computer room!

About a week before 9/11, I had a weird dream where I was in an open field, and saw a whole bunch of ground silo doors pop up and launch ICMB's. (A-la Terminator 3 style)..

In 2002, a co-worker gave me a bad tarot-card reading, kept pulling death cards and crap! Then a co-worker died in a plane crash, another of cancer, another on a motorcycle. Sheesh, stay away from me!

But, I'm sure it's all coincidence. Death happens all around us..
