Since a lot of people wonder what will give them the best gains and what types of gains they'll be seeing with each mod, is there any way we can get a sticky for this sort of thing? I know that things like different cams will obviously vary depending on lift/ duration and what not and head porting numbers will vary depending on how heavily they were ported but can't we get ballpark numbers? I was just wondering what kind of gains i would see if i got my heads ported but then i started thinking about what kind of gains stroking the motor would yield, what kind of gains a mild cam would show, headers, etc. What do you guys think?

Stickies=more clutter, IMO.
Unless dyno proven, HP claims can be so wildly varied that it ends up being worthless.
A thread with only before and after dyno sessions might be helpful (kinda like what was done at http://ws6.com/ )Rob B 95Z A4 Tech Page (Part numbers / locations, how to's, schematics, DTC's...) Home Page - shbox.com

Fair enough, can someone tell me some gains from head porting though? What about headers? I want to start getting ideas so can modify down the road. By the time i have the money, i'll probably need a total motor rebuild in which case i'll upgrade to an LT4 rather than slapping the stock LT1 parts back on. Just looking for ideas.Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!

There's an online article that compares actual head flow results for LT1/LT4 heads. It attempts to quantify the max HP capacity of each set of flow results by using a formula based on weighting the flow at various lifts. Its sort of a crude approach, but it does indicate the relationship between head flow results and max achievable HP. Its a strictly numeric approach, so keep that in mind. And, it gives you the "potential" max HP... whether or not you achieve that level is dependent on the cam selection and the balance of the intake and exhaust system.

What kind of numbers are we talking though? I want more power but i don't know where to start. I'm really really into weight reduction. I love it and i need to get cracking on it. I just want a general idea of what some hear porting will get me and what a slight cam upgrade will get me.Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!

if you do the lt4 upgrade, and those parts should come at a good price from a dealer, like do the intake, heads, headers, lt4 hot cam kit, timming chain and gears, 52mm tb, complete pcm programing to match, you will get approx. 400hp to the flywheel, thats the experience of most folks. if you have the head and intake ports ported and polished..make sure the person doing it is good as heck.. ive seen some jobs that cause an hp loss.

, get the car ready for the motor. A good set of sub-frame connectors will go a long way, followed by some LCAs with reloc. brackets. A new panhard rod wouldn't hurt either while you're at it, and the 1LE driveshaft will definitely be an improvement over the stock unit. A new cat-back wouldn't be a bad idea either, and a good, cheap part for a little extra juice would be a throttle body air foil. A short-throw shifter will also help you reduce shift-time. Add in some roller-rockers and a PCM flash, you should be screamin'. It won't put you near what Ken was talking about with the LT4 kit, but its definitely a good way to start. Glad you're keepin' the TA (or so I hope

. He might buy it but it's not very likely. I guess Firebreath and i will have to work out our differences.

I just hate how rough it rides. No matter how fast or slowly i get on or come off the clutch, the people in the passenger seat tend to move forward just a little bit every time i shifted. My dad was the only person that seemed to notice. He says i come off the clutch too slowly. The friction point for my clutch is right at the top. I could simply rest my foot on the clutch pedal and that would depress it enough for me to shift. All i have to do is tap the clutch, shift and let go of the clutch. There's no way i do it too slowly. I figured the car would ride more smoothly but then again, it's not a luxury car, it's a sports car. I'm also disappointed in the lack of pull throughout the RPM range. It launches off the line (assuming you get traction) but doesn't pull so hard once it hits around 3,500-4000 RPM's. I must say that i'm incredibl;y pleased with the handling though. I need to improve it even more since that's something i really like- taking turns fast. I suppose i have enough power considering i don't race and the faster i go, the faster i'll get a ticket. It's a pretty bad@$$ car. Guess i'll dump my money into suspension mods and weight reduction mods. I need a ram air hood too. Not a fan of the LT1 WS6 style, i'm in love with the LS1's WS6 hood though like Knightfire has. I'm still afraid of the optispark going on me some time in the future but i guess it's not that big a deal. Thanks guysRed 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!

Well, head porting is only going to save you a few ounces, max, and that will be offset by the extra material on the larger cam, so you're not going to save any weight by going that route!

remove all knobs.......no matter what they are connected to.
then move the battery to the hatch area.......
rip out the carpet and tear out the a/c unit and heater stuff......
then remove the pass seat......the heck with that useless person.....
aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
