  • NFB--bad eBay experience--what now??

I’ll make this as short as possible.

I recently acquired a 1983 S-10 with a 350/350 combo that someone gave up on and two parts trucks. I was able to pick these trucks up in a trade and have nothing in them. I decided to purchase everything I need from eBay, swap meets, etc.

On Feb 6th, I found a set of wheels on eBay:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43955

Thru several emails, I opted for the aluminum wheels he was talking about in the ad.

    He posted this for me:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

I purchased and paid instantly using Paypal.

He promised to ship the next day, but didn’t claiming to be having bad weather where he’s located. He promised at that point to ship ASAP and use a faster means than what I paid for. A few days go by and still no wheels. I email him again asking for tracking info. He just shipped that very day and also used usps and paid less shipping than I paid for. I emailed asking for something for the difference in shipping and for the trouble. He agreed to send me a little back (which I have yet to receive).

I received the wheels today and they don’t FIT!!!

Now, the part I need help with…I’ll just let you guys read thru the emails if you will and let me know what to do next.

My first contact thru eBay today:
    Dear allenh706,

Good afternoon. I received the wheels today and they will not fit my 83, 84, or 86 S-10 due to the backspacing.(hit tie rods in the front and frame in the rear...without tires mounted!) Also, they are not like the other ones you had for sale on eBay. Those had 8 holes and these have 12. What did these wheels come off of? I even tried them on my 16' utility trailer, but the bolt pattern was different. These wheels will not work for my application, what are you willing to do about it?

    Thanks

    His response:
7952898836these wheels came off of a chevrolet s10, I don't really know about the trailor but I guess that they should fit any s10, I know that they fit my 82 s10 and when I said that they were like the other ones I meant that they were the "bullet-hole" style...

    My next two replies:
The bolt pattern may fit your 1982 S-10, but I know the wheels actually will
not. They hit the tie rod on the front and the frame on the rear of all 3 of
my trucks. There is no difference in your truck and mine. They may fit a
newer S-10 with different offset. I would like a refund. Thanks

    And:

What I said about fitting the utility trailer was an attempt to keep and
utilize the wheels without going thru this hassle. Thanks

    He just replied with this:

I hate to refund because for whatever reason that something may bedifferent, I know that they will fit my s-10 because I had them on there.Have you tried every way possible, whether it be moving something orchanging something inside the wheel well. Thanks

These wheels have the same backspace / offset as my TA…They must be for a 93 up fbody or maybe something else…I just know they will not fit my trucks.

    Thanks Guys!!

There is nothing you can do. The seller did not promise you your money back if you were not satisfied. You paid for them, and received them. You can leave a negative feedback. You can try to use Ebay's complaint center, but I really doubt you'll get anywhere that way.

I would recommend reselling them on Ebay, listing the backspacing.

Did Chevy change the S10 backspacings from 1982 to 1983? I know they changed on F-bodys from 1992 to 1993.

      Thanks Tracy.

I'll just keep hounding this guy (being as nice as possible) and see what happens. I honestly had a bad feeling from the start, but went ahead because of the cheap price.

I do plan on leaving negative feedback if he doesn't offer to do anything about it.

To my knowledge, all S-10 backspacing is the same from 82--current(I could be wrong).

Getting back to not being able to do anything about it.....he sold these as S-10 wheels, if they turn out not to fit any year S-10, is there still nothing I can do thru eBay?

I'd suggest doing some research on S10 offsets and make sure the 82 is the same as yours. The wheels look like they are a deeper dish wheel than our f-body rims, but that is just my eye. If he sold them as 82 S10 wheels and you can determine that they wont fit an 82 S10, you may have recourse.

Honestly... for the $75.00 you paid for them I wouldnt bother. It's just not worth the hastle.

The wheels you are refering to in the first eBay ad are nothing like the wheels I received. Let me run out to the shop and take a couple of pics so you'll know what I got!

          Thanks

What's so hard about this situation is that he didn't post any specifics on it. If he would have said that they do fit your S-10 in the listing, then it would have fallen under the "misrepresentation" category. All ebay auctions are insured up to $200 (minus $15 deductible) - I think. So if you can prove the item was wrongly represented, and the guy will not give you a refund, you might be able to make a claim. However, I don't know if they would accept his description of the item via e-mail since it can easily be made up. It would need to be on the listing.
So my suggestion is...if he still won't comply, try to contact ebay's fraud/claim center about your situation. But most likely, you won't get anything back, just as Tracy said.

Those rims are NOT the ones pictured in the auction you listed a link to.

Those rims are for a mid 90s S10 Blazer. I recognize them and you are correct in that they will NOT fit your 82 blazer.
