how long can i store tires for ?

i can pick up some 315-35-17's for a very good price. the only thing is that i already have new set of 315-35-17's on my new 17x11's ZR1'S. i also only put about 2,500 miles a year on my tires. can i store the NEW tires for a couple of years or so? they will not be mounted when stored. if i can how would i best protect them while they are put away?

I personally wouldn't. I've seen street tires begin to dryrot after about a year but it is up to you.

Sumitomo HTR Z P315/35ZR-17 tires.These are Z speed rated with a traction and temperature rating of A. Treadwear is rated at 160 . These tires are very sticky and have awesome traction. Good thing i take it easy on them.

two years is fine.
store them in a dry place. dont stack them. put a plastic garbage bag around them. dont store them near any electrical operational units, like heat pumps, furnanes, stuff like that.

tires don't "dry rot" broh.. they get damaged from ozone overdose.........the anti ozoniant in the compound goes into reversion due to poor tire manufacturing process......... we store tires for up to 10 years in DOD for.. tactical vehicles...\

Good to know. But what would cause a pair of BF Goodrich TA's to dry up and crack when they sitting out of the sun in my garage for a year?

were they near any electrical stuff?

if not, age ......combined with the lack of proper rubber compounding can attribute to that. how old were they? you can tell by the last three numbers (now its four) of the DOT code. the first two are the week, the second one or two, the year. if the protectant migrates to the surface of the sidewall, weatherchecking develops. its ugly, but not harmful if the tiny splits do not go any deeper than barely a split.. if they go to the cord body, then you have a problem.
