  • pullys?

One of my friends told me that underdrive pullies give you a noticable power gain and told me to do it. I figured I'd ask if it was worth it here because he is full of it. This is the same friend that told me about how sideways fartcans reduce drag. lol

Don't aftermarket pullies usually cause major alternator problems?
Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!
    SOLD- Kinda miss it
94 Del Sol VTEC: 27 city/ 33 highway, knee deep in slowness
    SOLD- Good riddance!
2006 Ford Fusion: 2.3, 5 speed, could run 15lbs of boost with a 150 shot and it'd still be slow

      Sometimes.

Noticeable power gains would be surprising to me. They just are not worth that much hp on an LT1.

And, to back that up, a dyno test showing an 0.7 peak HP gain with an U/D pulley on a 96 WS6. This site is a good reference for the bolt-on mods. You ought to look it over.

And to add to what Fred said, slowing the belt speed adds life to the accessories. I just replaced my original alternator (137k miles), not because it failed...... just on a hunch that it might. The voltage had been showing a little low so I replaced it with a new one and the volts are stronger than when I bought the car and it was stock. The other accessories are still OEM. Underdrive pulleys also solved my belt squeek that occured on a WOT shift.
