  • Yet another exhuast question

This is sorta nfb and sorta not. I was thinkin about exhaust for the chevelle. I would buy 2 lm resonators and have a true dual setup. That got me thinkin that I could do it for my car. My question is could I do it and is it worth the hassle. One more quick question. What is the difference between "loudmouth" and "loudmouth 2"

Many people have gone to "true duals" on a 4th Gen F-Body. They have gone so far as incorporating X-pipes and H-pipes. I think most people choose to terminate the exhaust before the axle, as that is the easiest way to do it. However others have managed to thread both sides over the axle and exit at the back. BMR makes a modified panhard rod brace and a panhard rod relocation bracket to increase the space available for the driver's side pipe.

Whether all this is worth it is open to debate. A friend of mine was pushing 1,125HP through Hooker LT's, a 3" Y-pipe and a Mufflex 4" catback. He removed the entire Mufflex catback and the Y-pipe, leaving just the Hooker LT's with a Borla XR1 shorty on each collector. Dyno tests showed no difference in HP between the full exhaust the the skimpier collector muffler approach.

I run the Borla XR1's on each collector, with a 3" pipe and 90deg turndown back near the axle. It's pretty loud, but then its pretty much a "track only" setup.

Hey Fred that's a neat exhaust setup, would it be possible to you extend your tips to the sides?

The pipes are tucked up and behind the rocker panels. It would be hard (but possible) to turn the tips the other way and extend them out the sides. Maybe if they were rectangular rather than round. There is not a lot of clearance... that pic was taken with the car sitting on my trailer, and its a flat floor... no lip on the edge. What you see for clearance is what is available (except for the "bump" up... that's the trailer fender.) The turndowns are facing "in" because the local track has a noise limit, and facing the turndowns that way minimizes the noise outside the car.

This pic is taken from farther back and might make the clearance issure more visible.

I always liked the 2nd gen. side exhaust,it would be interesting to see that incorporated in a 4th gen.
Nice ride Fred, always liked it, race car but yet retains a street / sleeper look.

The difference is the silencer used. The Loudmouth uses the original resonator, while the LM 2 uses a new high-flow bullet muffler thus making it quieter without sacrificing flow.

I've got something in between. If you like or don't mind "rasp", then get the LM1. If you want something a little quieter without sacrificing flow, then get the LM2.
